#TodayInHistory 1984 - #Amstrad releases the CPC 464 personal computer. It features a #Z80 CPU, 64kB RAM, includes a monitor and built-in tape drive. More than 2 million units sold in Europe.
Here's an assortment of PCs and laptops. Highlights include Starring-the-Computer debutantes Zenith EaZy pc in "Hider in the House" and Alienware 13 R2 in the first episode of A Murder at the End of the World. There are a couple of Toshiba T1000/1200s as well as Amstrads and PS/2s.
I'm currently finishing "The Heart of Salamanderland" for the Amstrad CPC, that will have a physical release by PolyPlay (see my Brick Rick for an example!).
Always when I pass this little building, it reminds me of the game "Tiny Skweeks" by #Loriciel that was originally released for the #Amstrad#CPC. Among others there are versions for #SNES, #Amiga, #AtariST and #DOS, some of them known under the name "The Brainies".
I have fond memories of the game and really need to play it again.
Here is a short insight of the #AmstradCPC version:
#Quiche#compiler is now alive! (At least Conway's variant of alive). The initial version was slow - about four seconds per generation. It was multiplying coordinates for each cell read and write.
The second variant uses offsets into each liner buffer, and only redraws changed cells. It's now running at three to four generations per second.

It's doing it's first set of instructions. Note that the rom loaded won't boot fully because of a lot of missing instructions. The checker pattern is actually debugging information added.
The already good PANG on the #Amstrad Plus has been patched to add new backgrounds, and to fix the order of those and the music to be more like the arcade.
Assembly of the #CPCModular is progressing nicely. I’ve soldered on pretty much everything I have in stock. And I’ve recovered and transferred the larger parts from prototype build. Now to make up a list and go shopping for the remainder.
