Forgetting the contents of Apple's 100 Best Albums.
This is an hilarious example of Marketing team and Product team not seeing eye to eye. This panel shows up next to panels for albums I can instantly stream, but the list is not inside the app, so I can't play the albums there. I have to go to the website, sign in blah blah blah.
There's not even a playlist in the app. It's just a horrible, empty husk of an acquisition mechanic. Who knew Apple music could get any worse 🤷‍♂️

I can't believe the Mastodon web interface still doesn't have a theme that auto-adjusts to the system's light/dark mode preferences. It just has "Light", "Dark", and "High Contrast", none of which GAF about the system settings.

So when, to take an example that I'm currently experiencing, I go from being outside in a park to a dark bar and flip my system theme from light to dark, I then also have to adjust Masto independently. Unlike everything else. It's , TBH.

Nobody:
Website owners: You know what people really love when they're reading something? To have a giant modal popup in their face!

Narrator: It turns out they actually don't.

How is it that things just keep getting shittier?
Is anyone paying attention, or are we just letting AI program everything, now?

Siri just got “improved.”

Previous Siri:
<Office light is off>
Hey Siri, office light
(Siri & HomeKit toggle office light on)

New improved Siri:
<Office light is off>
Hey Siri, office light
“Should I turn it off or on?”
Turn it on!
“Should I turn it off or on?”
ON! FFS
“I don’t know what to make of that”
<Turns light on manually>

If your web form asks for data that commonly contains spaces, hyphens, or whatever (e.g. phone numbers: (613) 555-1234; or postal codes: M5W 1E6), then FFS your form should accept that format.

At last: Car industry told to dial back use of touchscreens. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/stop-making-dangerous-touchscreens-car-firms-told-xv3gmpdc6

“to be introduced in January 2026, any car seeking maximum points for the highest safety rating of five stars must use buttons, stalks or dials for five critical tasks: indicating directions, triggering hazard lights, sounding the horn, operating windscreen wipers and activating the eCall SOS”

Touch screens for everything in a car =

"Paste with formatting" should never be the default.

At this point, most places that paste-with-formatting on Ctrl-V will do it without formatting on Ctrl-Shift-V, but... dammit, flip them around! Default to without; on the amazingly rare occasions when I want that behavior, I'll ask for it.

I remember when we snotty Macintosh users looked down on PCs because they were limited to file names with 8CHRCTRS.TXT and we could have file names like “***Woohoo! This is a file name ***”.

Apple, what ever happened to you? This is just a label, for god’s sake.

I am rebuilding my MacBook starting at tabula rasa.

I'm currently trying to connect the machine to my iCloud account. I am in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike, and I think I've just been eaten by a grue.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

Apple used to hold up UI as a religion, now they use it to torture people.

"Enter the password of your other MacBook, you know the one you said goodbye to seven years ago."

"Forgot that one? Pick one of your other devices, and enter its password"
<User clicks on a current device, hits continue>

"Enter your old MacBook PW, please"
<User, confused now, clicks on "I don't remember that one">
<Apple pops up a message suggesting they are about to put my iCloud data in the shredder if I don't cough up a password for old Sparky...>
<I'm too traumatized to remember what I did next, but it made sense at the time>

"Choose Device!" <shows NO devices>
...Offers friendly "Forgot everything?" link, which I suspect will take me to the home page of iCloud, so I can open a new account... The "Back" button is dimmed. I hear heavy breathing in the darkness, and a shambolic padding sound on the wet cave floor...

The alt text function on here still needs lots of work. If I'm posting on my (Mac) laptop, the composition box is often a tiny square that stretches downward as I type. Then, it pushes the "apply" button off the screen, making applying alt text more than one short sentence impossible.

There is no reason the composition box cannot be a big, wide open space that makes it easy. I often don't post photos because I don't feel like fighting the alt text function when I'm tired. (Like now. I'm tired.)

I may just start skipping alt text in these cases, but it shouldn't have to be a choice. Why make something difficult if you want people to actually do it?

Behold, the shadiest ecommerce ever: you can't search or use the navigation without creating an account. This is, wow, next level. Why would I create and account, if I don't even know what I can find on your site?
Also, bonus for shitty keyboard accessibility, you have to through the whole rest of the site before being able to get your focus in that damn modal.

The removal of indented results has created SERPs where a site will appear more than once but not together.

Hard for me to believe this is better for users.

The irony, of calling it "EasyApp", when they force double authentication by SMS, the SMS takes 10 minutes to arrive, and by the time it arrived, the login page timed out. It's a usability and accessibility mess, nothing EASY here.

Sem tam to ještě hodí nějaký error a taky si neví rady s českou diaktritikou.

Ale podařilo se.

https://pixelfed.cz/simon.dsk

sdsk,

A ještě navážu.

Takže bádáte, proč to nejde uložit.

Pro uložení musíte smazat přebytečné fotky a nechat pouze 4 fotky na příspěvek.

Web developers: If you can't stop your stakeholders from making you put a "live help" or "May I help you?" chat(bot) widget on your site, see if you can at least get them to agree that if the user has already dismissed it X times (like say 3), you should stop showing it anymore.

Or, try suggesting X be 1 time, and let them talk you down to 3.

Just a word to all web developers: If I hover over something on your site and get a pointy-finger cursor, and then Ctrl-click on it, I expect that to open in a new tab. If it opens in the same tab, I will be cursing you and your ancestors, and strongly debating checking out your competition instead.

"Open in new tab" is a common use case. Support it.
