:skull360: We have now successfully upgraded to v4.3.0-alpha.3+mementomods-2024-05-26. The server has Mastodon Bird UI 2.0.0rc37 installed with no further changes at this time in the UI.
The branch is now synced and up-to-date and 158 commits ahead from the last version 2024-05-01.
I love running the newest version so I can test ahead in production for the upcoming Mastodon Bird UI versions. I do have my local instance with the production db, but it is far more fun this way and it feels good to have new things.
This "testing in live" is also because it's the perfect way to make sure that I can help contributing to Mastodon and spot bugs before they end up in the final rc, beta or stable versions. There most probably will be some minor bugs, but the earlier we tackle them the better.
As usual, please tell me about any strange things you may encounter with this Mastodon version. We're running bleeding edge after all.
I hope you enjoy your time here. Feel free to send me a message if you have anything in mind. :bunhdheart:

Mastodon Bird UI is now in version 2.0.0rc30. To this version I've been experimenting with the new 2024-03 v4.3.0-alpha.3 UI and @nileane Tangerine UI's compact header on mobile, thanks for the inspiration and shortcuts code-wise! :bunhdheart:
This version also includes some slight fixes, icons and other improvements.
The release v2.0.0 will be massive, but we're not there yet with Mastodon v4.3.0 and because I'm following the Mastodon mainline and there is no ETA, I'm taking it easy as well.

I'm thrilled to see @Vivaldi included Mastodon Bird UI in Vivaldi Social. :bunhdheart:
"We’ve added two new sets of custom themes — Tangerine UI and Mastodon Bird UI. Both themes flip the interface to display the menu on the left side of the feed, keeping the posting and searching options on the right side."
The new upcoming Mastodon version has some UI changes especially for compose form and search input. Naturally I have adapted changes for these elements to the upcoming Mastodon Bird UI 2.0.0, release candidate 4. Not yet released, still testing the changes.
I'm experimenting on displaying media on Mastodon posts. Very long mobile posts or images with aspect-ratio of 2:3 that have more height than width are usually difficult to perceive on a busy feed. This change would make those long posts smaller while retaining the 1:1 or 16:9 posts as they are.
On the side note, I wish people would not create an account to my server just because they want to test out Mastodon Bird UI. There are plenty of ways to test in other ways. I should probably update my rules.
Anyway, I hope you stay, but feel free to test run it as much as you want :bunhdheart:
Mastodon Bird UI release candidate now supports the new upcoming onboarding user interface. The newest 2.0.0rc also contains bunch of fixes and accessibility improvements. Good times.
Mastodon v4.3.0 is not there yet, so the 2.0.0rc is only for the brave ones who run the bleeding edge v4.3.0-alpha.0.
@kylewritescode I haven’t kept the stable updated because it’s quite a lot of work to focus on different versions since I myself use the mainline. I could attempt to get it right for 4.2.3, but I just assumed the icons won’t change until 4.3.0. Will look at it probably on Saturday. Until that use the Bird UI version that works.
