There is still time to register to join Sheryl Sandberg and National Council of Jewish Women CEO Sheila Katz on Tuesday, May 28th, at 8:15pm ET, for a Jewish Community Conversation about the importance of bearing witness, lifting up the silenced voices of the October 7th attack, and demanding justice.
Screams Before Silence, led by Sheryl Sandberg, is a powerful documentary that captures first-person testimony from survivors, first responders, forensic experts, eyewitnesses, and released hostages from the attack by Hamas in Israel on October 7th. Their harrowing accounts reveal the uncompromising truth: Hamas used sexual assault as a weapon of war.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but comparing Biden’s mental health with Trump’s mental health is like comparing an iPhone with 2 styrofoam cups and some string.
In first, UN Security Council holds meeting solely focused on hostages held by Hamas
The words of Shoshan Haran, who was held captive along with three members of her family, and whose son-in-law Tal Shoham is still captive: “We cannot allow the normalization of this unprecedented form of terrorism — mass hostage-taking of unarmed civilians, women, children, elderly,” said Haran, now 68, founder of farming and food security charity Fair Planet.
@Jonathanglick@idan How to protest: in general, in a case like this, solidarity with domestic protesters is the best. This means protesting the Occupation and Bibi personally, and calling for a hostage deal, e.g. the #BringThemHome campaign. It means forging connections with Jewish-Arab partnerships like Standing Together.
#BringThemHome
Eden Golan displayed incredible bravery, singing her song flawlessly despite being surrounded by a sea of hate. She dedicated her participation to the hostages.
The EBU apparently didn’t allow the Israeli presenter to wear a yellow ribbon pin. Because reminding the world of the hostages, not just Israeli but of many nationalities, is “political.” Just like mourning the massacre at a music festival is “political,” so the original Israeli song lyrics were disqualified. The world is working hard and actively to promote a collective amnesia of the 7 October pogrom. It has been 219 days. #BringThemHome#BringThemHomeNow#Israel#Eurovision
Despite a stroke, #PA Senator John #Fetterman is thinking more clearly & logically than most. Thank you Sen. Fetterman for being a voice of reason & morality. 🙌
Shamefull & shocking he doesn’t have more company.
#Israel Time is of the essence! Let's unite in a global plea for the safe return of hostages. Spread the word, raise your voice! 🌐 #BringThemHome#BringThemHomeNow
It's been 29 weeks. Naama is still in Gaza. No light, no medicine, little food. At grave risk of sexual violence. Bring her and all the hostages home now #BringThemHome 🎗️🎗️🎗️
If you're demanding a #ceasefire in #Gaza but not calling for #ReleaseGazaHostages & demanding #BringThemHome & #HamasSurrender then you are not working for peace. You are working for the enemies of democracy & decency, and the destruction of all you claim to hold dear.
“Hamas has before it a proposal that is extraordinarily, extraordinarily generous on the part of Israel. And at this moment, the only thing standing between the people in Gaza and a ceasefire is Hamas.”
~Antony Blinkin
It has been a depressing week. The story I’m linking here is about two survivors of the Nova musical festival massacre. It is a difficult read, but they survived and they have each other.
“This summer, Gali Segal and Ben Benjamin, both lost limbs in Nova rave massacre, will marry under the canopy with new prosthetics; 'If we were destined to lose one of our legs, it's best that it happened to both of us'” #Israel#Pogrom
Day 200. Parents of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who was taken captive by Hamas on 7 Oct, speak with a Times of Israel journalist about Pesach. This interview was recorded about a week ago.
200 days and they are still held hostage in #Gaza. It's fitting we mark this terrible milestone on #Pesach, a day when we remember how we were freed from slavery in Egypt. 🎗️
196 days. Pesach starts on Monday. The parents of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who was taken hostage by Hamas on 7 Oct, speak to Times of Israel:
““I don’t even want to be a part of it,” said Goldberg. “There’s something perverse about even going through the motions of celebrating a holiday of freedom from captivity when our only son is not free and is in the worst form of captivity that any of us can imagine. It feels completely inappropriate.””
