The hand-made production line of #CERBERUS2100 courtesy units is operating at full power. One more to go. The @olimex custom case is fantastic! This is the only classic-like 8-bitter you will ever need, with a #Z80, a #6502, a DMA-based expansion slot, and two BASIC interpreters!
Ever wanted to know how a memory-mapped VGA video circuit works, down to the gate-level? This is your chance! Anticipating Olimex's launch of #CERBERUS2100, I am continuing with the series that explains how the entire system works, including the internal design of the three custom chips. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/WyfoYvf0JkY
What do you know?! Everything seems to be already working on #CERBERUS2100, and on the real hardware! Sasha's speed in developing this stuff is dizzying! https://youtu.be/lFkwNQhZkVw
To celebrate the upcoming commercial availability of #CERBERUS2100 from @olimex I wanted to re-toot this demonstration video. CERBERUS 2100 is meant as an open-source educational platform that shows how a multi-CPU computer is built, from the gate-level up. https://youtu.be/w4BwQMsE6vg?si=tYW-peJQ7l0h9Y2P
Oh look! Something has happened to #CERBERUS2100: it's sprouted 7 new colors, simultaneously displayed! No changes in the manufacturing files, just an update to FAT-SCUNK, done in-system, in secs. Those claiming that #CERBERUS2100 only has 2 colors are in trouble now. 🤣 @olimex
Answering requests, here's #CERBERUS2100 running the cellular automaton test applications on both CPUs (the Z80 and the 6502). On the Z80 I run it at only 4MHz (instead of 8MHz) because at top speed the pattern becomes impossible to see. Short of testing the expansion slot (TBD), the prototype is fully functional. @olimexhttps://youtu.be/6yKA7pf2ww4
[ I really like the multi-processing capabilities, I wonder how hard would it be to create a ZX-BERUS with a handful of Z80s instead of a hybrid dual-headed Z80/6502 chimera. All in all, an excellent project and there's a lot of work that would be reusable to bootstrap anyone who would like to build a SMPeccy. Handy!🙂 ]
I sincerely have no idea how Movie Vertigo managed to do this; let alone the dynamic mode switching! It's truly amazing and a delight to see. I hereby declare Movie Vertigo ultimate #CERBERUS2100 expert. https://youtu.be/YAkdrkZGHiM?si=Uxmbrw2_-g4o1IAp
@TheByteAttic Got my CPLD JTAG programming cable here and I could reprogram #cerberus2100 for the coloured characters, they now work. Now I can try to get colour into my FORTH games.
