Followup from my #SwatchWednesday post, here is the writing sample for Lie de thé. Again, the ink entry format is adapted to the old planner, the swatch is colored in over the month box, a convenient rectangle (:
Also, after a falling to the floor mishap, fishie pen rest is back (: fixed with 2-part epoxy.
@_ I can’t super imagine using it that often and certainly not in my normal F/EF pens. I think more inky pens like this fude or the Pilot Parallels really bring out its qualities, so I would perhaps use it for letters (for which I tend to use very wet pens like Pelikans) or a heading pen (stub or similar).
The ink was from my Secret #FPSanta so it wasn’t my own pick, but though I probably wouldn’t have bought it myself, I’m glad to have it. All the standard line Herbins are pretty interesting.
This nib takes a bit of getting used to as it does have a very defined sweet spot. However, it shows shading extremely well and pairs nicely with a shading ink like this one. And if you’re writing Chinese, it’s a bit of magic— it made my awful Chinese cursive actually look kind of artistic or something.
#FPQuestion of the day:
What do you think were the best or most interesting new product releases in 2023? What caught your eye the most and why? Did you end up buying any of them? #FountainPens
@penfount I think Jinhao really had some winners last year. I was really impressed with the 80 and 9019 in particular. I got both of these and the 80 is currently in use, the 9019 was used for a while and is in the cleaning pool.
I also got the Moonman T6, a new skeleton pen release, but not to keep. One of my #FPSanta giftees said he likes “lightsaber colors” and I thought this would be perfect for him so I got it for him and paired it with a BlueDew nib.
#FPQuestion of the day:
What new insights or revelations did you gain in 2023 about pens, your personal pen preferences, or writing in general? #FountainPens
@dharhpk@toga that became my strategy a few years ago (: other than extremely cheap pens, I only bought three pens last year. I also gave away a lot in #FPSanta, but then I also got around 5 or 6 pens as gifts which sort of balanced it out.

Diamine Communication Breakdown
Another of Diamine's German exclusive inks, which are all named after famous songs. A deep red with gold sheen on some papers; on other papers it's more of a shading ink. Fun to use, a good contrast ink, not overly bright. More of a writing ink than a "correction red". (Thanks to my #FPSanta from Germany!)

Paper: Tomoe River 52 gsm, Clairefontaine 90 gsm

Diamine Ancient Copper
This is another one of the classic Diamine inks. A dramatic copper red, shading apparent in finer nibs; with wetter pens, there is still color variation but less of the shading pooling effect. Visibly darker on more absorbent paper. (Thanks to my elite #FPSanta for the ink!)
Writing sample from Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley
Personal #Inkvent — Inksmas day 2
Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrün
This ink is another famous shading ink which probably needs no introduction. A lovely antique gold-green as it says on the tin, the color of ink shades from grass green to olive green, with a yellow/gold tint. Best in a broader nib, quite light in finer lines. (Thanks to my elite #FPSanta for the bottle!)
Writing sample: J.R.R. Tolkien
Pen: Sailor Hocoro fude
Paper: Tomoe River 52gsm original
Personal #Inkvent day 24 — Christmas Eve double feature!
Diamine x CultPens Helen: a very Christmassy pine green ink with dark magenta sheen. Think Tokiwamatsu but more sheen.
Pilot Red (Thailand): a bit more neon than the Japanese Pilot Red, more similar to Platinum Red. I would probably term this salmon pink shading to coral-orange. (Thanks to my elite #FPSanta for the bottle)
Thanks to my elite tier #FPSanta u/Jhrrrr! 10 lovingly gently used inks, three notebooks that don’t fit my Santa’s preferences anymore, a King Jim notebook cover, and a Pilot Elite long-short with posting nib. A true epitome of paying it forward in a Secret Santa where the Santa is passing on things to a new owner that will appreciate them more. Also there was some drama with the post office and my Santa snuck some inks by customs by hiding them in a makeup bag (:
Received a wonderful assortment of papers and inks (and stickers!) from my Elite Tier Secret Santa. She gifted me some lovely Birmingham Pen Co inks, one of the WonderPens newest cat-inspired inks, and a great assortment of fountain pen friendly papers in a variety of sizes. The stickers are very me too. Many thanks to her! (Though she is not Mastodon.)
Secret Santas, the shipping deadline is today! But don’t worry if you haven’t sent your package, just keep your giftee informed and all will be well. If you have questions, please review the answers at the below post:
Received a delightful and thoughtful Fun Tier gift from my Secret Santa today. Gorgeous green ink, an ink well I didn't know I wanted (but am totally enchanted with now), and a tasty treat gone as soon as I finished taking the pics to show it all off. Many thanks to my Santa! (Who is probably not on Mastodon, but you all get to see it anyway.)
@paradoxmo oh don't tempt me to open it today further 😅 I will make sure to post under the correct tag. If I am able to restrain myself not before the 6th.

@penfount I'm still undecided with my participation in Secret Santa. I have some #FountainPens that I can give so someone, but all are vintage pens and most people are not into that stuff. Anyway, I'm not sure that I need any more pens, although variety is fun. So much hard decisions in my life. #FPSanta
