@RobynGoodfellow @CactuarJoe @Zerofactorial and exactly how did they get metric in a desert home depot in the US in 1953. i mean. that takes some work. they must be so mad.

@RobynGoodfellow @CactuarJoe @Zerofactorial Alien 1: HOW DID YOU GET THIS WRONG?

Alien 2: WHAT KIND OF FUCKING HOME DEPOT IN THE US CARRIES METRIC?

Even if he didn't get credit, this one really did benefit from Ray Bradbury's dialogue. It's not necessarily super naturalistic but it is enjoyable.

(EDIT: apparently he did and I missed that because of being in the kitchen.)

@SnoopJ Wait was he? I was in and out a lot so if he was I missed it

How did the Jane character, who got maybe one minute of screen time, get a head shot in the end titles?

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

@Zerofactorial @kcarr2015 @allanb honestly i think there were a few legit wow moments that worked just as well in 2D:

  1. The initial forced-perspective zoom inside the spaceship. That thing is big and it showed how big (if briefly) and it worked.

2: the initial scene still in the crater when doc whatshisname almost got in the door.

  1. The alien eye turns to smoke turns into Russell Johnson's hand. Dang that was nice.

  2. The laser wand. Too bad they didn't let her actually aim, but.

@Zerofactorial @kcarr2015 @allanb

Smaller bits I liked:

  1. the two aliens who looked like the linemen walking together and clearly didn't know how to walk like normal human worm babies so were in locksync

  2. the whole being followed around visually by the aliens with the static bubble effect.

  3. back to the linemen, I mean, it's theatre-y but I do like the bit about the wind in the wires and really most of that scene.

  4. The outdoors vs. outdoor set transitions were helped a lot by B&W but still pretty good, particularly for then. Some nice work in there, I've seen lots worse

the use of splitscreen here is really good every time. I mean there's a lot of shitty splitscreen in movies like this but this one got them right
