Ridley and @MatGB and I went to Manchester for work yesterday, and left Spike with @Morgan who was working from our living room. Please enjoy these photos of an old man enjoying having the sofa to himself without That Young Whippersnapper, and being handed his water bowl to save him getting up. Rumours that Morgan spoils doggos are not to be reported to his cat Leo.
They tell you before you get one that sighthounds are "really lazy," but I don't think you really grok it till you have one (or more) in the family. Like "they sleep 16-18 hours a day" is a fact that doesn't prepare you for the reality. "They really like blankets" actually means an exponential increase in the numbers of duvets and therefore duvet covers that need washing in the house.
This post brought to you by Ridley once more refusing to get out of bed, and clutching my legs so I can't get out of bed either.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. But a lurcher snuggling your leg? That's forever
Ridley is strenuously protesting the lack of fire, he keeps lying down by the fireplace, crying, looking at me, looking at @MatGB, crying some more. Mat keeps pretending he doesn't know what Ridley wants and taking him outside. Who will win this war of attrition?
Ridley would like me to tell you all how he suffers. He has just had his lunch and burped hugely in my face while asking me to lift the duvet so he can get under it for a nap, which, of course, i did.
He would like the whole Internet to know and mourn this terrible mistreatment.
Ridley: I WILL graciously deign to eat the corner of your sandwich which you've saved for me, mummy, but only if you tear off the tiny bit that has slightly touched a tomato. Salad content is all well and good for humans, but I just want bread, mayo, and ham.
On Tuesday evenings Spike and I come visit my parents. Ridley is a bit bouncy for my mum, so Spike gets a rest from Ridley being bouncy and my mum gets to pet Spike and everybody is happy.
Also, it means Spike gets a treaty tea. He's had pizza and sausages tonight. And now he snooze:
