Do you want to run a television network for your community? (That might be a local community around you, or a community that is separated by geography and united by a common cause.)
We're looking at getting our network on local cable, and once that's accomplished I'll update the book with info on how we did it.
We're also looking at establishing other #NETV affiliates. You wouldn't be #NewEllijayTelevision, but you'd have access to the #NewEllijayTV videos and archives in exchange for offering the same to us for things you produce, and using some NETV affiliate branding (Like your local NBC or CBS affiliate does.)
My friend and fellow Implement of Destruction @connor_dylan put together a really solid piece of reporting around the Georgia bail fund criminalization bill, its origins, its failings, and what you can do about it. This is great community journalism coming out of New Ellijay TV.
Every morning I spend.a few minutes at our coffee shop, drinking coffee that me and my friends roast, in a space that my wife and I have decorated and cultivated over the last several years.
I listen to the (internet) radio station we offer, usually it is playing some weird local or indie shit (Jesca Hoop right now, from the house that jack built.)
I make sure #newellijaytv is running, and I spend a few minutes checking the day's schedule and making sure it has no obvious errors. Sometimes I am surprised by what is playing and I sit for a few minutes and watch it.
I tidy things here, and make note of anything that needs to be fixed.
It's a slow, simple routine. It's the best part of my day.
This is why I run a mastodon instance. This is why I'm running #newellijaytv and the community media video server.
This is why I'm always messing around with new ways to build BBSs. It's why I am involved with #auralisle
We have the ability to provide community operated, home grown, sustainable alternatives to the bits of our life that currently enrich far off billionaires.
But! In many ways, we are blazing new trails.
Others have been down routes, but their blazes have faded, their trails have not been maintained, the landscape has shifted, eroded and been reformed in the meantime.
In light of the fact that major broadcasters are lobbying the FCC to force encryption/subscriptions in to standard OTA broadcasts, now is a good time to talk about #DIYTV
If you don't have anything better to do this morning, we've got Saturday Morning cartoons and Saturday afternoon Adventure Movies on New Ellijay Television.
