Spouse and I have kinda settled into a nice routine where we listen to a podcast together immediately after putting sproglet to bed. We drink tea and listen to No Such Thing As A Fish. She knits and I play Rollercoaster Tycoon on my . Sometimes we light some incense. This is our transitional time of shifting gears between work/parenting and doing our own thing for the rest of the evening. It's very cosy and nice.

Between the occasional playing with mucky/oily hands because I have the gameDad with me in the car, and simply putting so much time on the joysticks, I've pretty much completely worn them out. Fortunately this Anbernic RG353V uses bog-standard Nintendo Switch style joycon joysticks, so I've ordered a pair of replacements that should be here tomorrow.

So I guess expect a little disassembly thread in the next few days :)

@ifixcoinops My joystick didn't wear out but I was less than impressed with the stock one on my Odroid Go Advance. So when I got this nice metal case for it I went ahead an swapped the joystick for a Vita one and it's much better.

I wonder what is going on with Pine64 these days. They haven't announced any new products since 2022. This by itself isn't necessarily a problem since they have plenty of devices as it is and they could all use some more time in the oven to be more usable. But the podcast they used to put out stopped in 2022 and there has only been 1 "monthly" update on their blog in the past year.

This armbian sid image for the MangoPi boots, has hdmi output and wifi works. Running updates now and then we'll see if any of the beepy stuff will install successfully.

The little weather script on the PDA now pulls weather data during hotsync directly from openweathermap without relying on sometimes flaky wttr.in and displays it when offline. Yesssssss

@FrankauLux Yes the ESP32 would be pretty ideal for what I'm doing honestly. But it is way beyond my skill level to get something like that working with a microcontroller. Smooshing some CLI programs together is much more in my realm :).

@ifixcoinops There is enough stuff on their documentation website and the main firware and software are on github and pretty well documented there. There is still stuff on discord I'm sure but I wouldn't know because I refuse to go there. I'm getting along fine without it.

I have told @sqfmi how stupid it is to hide so much of their "open" device information behind a crappy proprietary platform but I don't know that they actually listen to their customers.

Still yet to be determined but if I can coax good enough battery life out of this thing it could be my new PDA. Turn wifi off and load it with a bunch of useful offline utilities and info. Make a script that temporarily turns wifi on to sync some rss and gemini feeds and stuff for offline reading etc.

Bahahahahahaha I just saw a terminal journal writing program that takes "a couple of HOURS" to compile on a Pi Zero. Yes, it's a Pi Zero but...it's text in a terminal.

Bikes are being stolen at work seemingly multiple times a week now, despite being locked up with U-locks. The latest theft involved a bike locked with both a U-lock and a cable lock.

I'm starting to think the only protection is having a really shitty bike.

@MLE_online @rose_alibi There is a couple with ebikes that are often at a brewery we frequent. We always sit on the small patio out back along an alley. They always lock their bikes to the metal gate where you enter the patio and they have loud annoying alarm sounds triggered by motion. Those annoying alarms sound half a dozen times everytime we're there lol. We have kids and they park them right by the entrance and it's a small patio area. So the bikes and or the gate get bumped by a kid or someone else pretty frequently. But they never come out to check on them so it would probably not prevent much.
