Version 1.1 of #Pipilo on #iOS is out. Pipilo is a unique fediverse app where you view posts one at a time in a horizontal timeline.
New in this update is support for notifications. Following the core idea of the app they are displayed in horizontal groups organized by days.
Premium users can also enable push notifications with quick reply action.
Just started playing with the #Pipilo client on iOs. It’s voiceover accessibility is superb so far. I just can’t figure out where to find notifications.
Continuing work on notifications in my Fediverse application #Pipilo. Added color highlighting and small animations that appear when there are unread notifications.
Also seen is a new layout for images that displays whole alt text under them.
Making it so it will be possible to quickly reply to mentions directly from notifications in #Pipilo. Do any other fediverse apps have a feature like this?
Continuing work on notifications in #Pipilo and am wondering. Should the app automatically dismiss push notifications when going to notifications screen in app?
The idea is that if you go there, then we can be sure that you saw the notification. But perhaps some people would like to keep them for later.
Dismissing or opening a push notification in #Pipilo will automatically update unread state (synchronized with web and other apps that use markers API).
This will remove the need to open notifications to mark them as read when viewing directly from notification center.
Listening to the @atpfm member special where they all talked John out of making a Mastodon app has really made me question if I should keep going on ThinkSocial. On the one hand, everything they said was right. It is an overcrowded market. There are a ton of details to get right (remember when I thought I’d be done by June 😂). Ivory and other clients are already really good and it’s going to take a lot to catch up to them, and they aren’t working on it in their spare time.
@david if you like working on the app you should definitely release it. I’m also working in free time, mostly for myself on app with the same idea (#Pipilo) and decided to release it. There is nothing to lose by doing that.
I barely got any recognition (because I did no marketing) but there are few happy users that use it. I’m sure there will be a lot more of them. Plus there is something special about having your app out there available for anyone to use :)
Version 0.30 of #Pipilo for Mastodon and Fediverse on #iOS is out with polished premium screen and bug fixes.
From visible changes added web page previews when long pressing link cards and a small notification banner that appears after a post is submitted. Now I’m starting work on app screenshots and description to hopefully get the app approved on App Store soon.
For the next #Pipilo update I'm polishing premium screen with layout inspired by Up Ahead app.
For free you will be able to interact with Fediverse in read-only way. Any custom lists, followed hashtags or submitted posts will be accessible in Pipilo.
To submit new content, react to posts, add multiple accounts or edit timelines from the app you'll be required to subscribe (or pay once for lifetime option). Basically similar limits like in other apps.
Version 0.29 of #Pipilo for Mastodon and Fediverse on #iOS is out with followers list and more options when creating posts.
You can now submit posts with videos and content warnings, change post visibility or language. Additionally it’s now possible to view alt text descriptions of videos similar to images.
@cheeaun Could say that “Prioritize your follows” is also partially done in #Pipilo. Whenever I load new posts from timelines I automatically group them into threads. For home timeline it usually means that the posts will display replies from followers since only these appear in timeline.
If you expand more replies these appear under already discovered replies. Of course this approach is not perfect but works well for me and my app.
Lots of progres on the next #Pipilo update. I decided it’ll be the last TestFlight update with new features (only bug fixes after that) so there is a lot of new stuff.
Some highlights: followers and followed users, post visibility and language selection when posting, option to post with content warning, new feedback menu, screen with precise text selection and find feature for post content, link preview cards when submitting posts and more in progress.
Version 0.28 of #Pipilo for Mastodon and Fediverse on #iOS is out with improved performance and end of timeline views.
In preparation of App Store release in few versions performance, animations, responsiveness and general stability has been improved across the app. Additionally now you can easily tell when you reach last post in timelines and perform actions like refresh or switch timeline.
Small new detail in #Pipilo. Usernames now scale down instead of wrapping to next line. Much better to see that instead of few wrapped trailing letters alone in line.
Didn't have anything to share about #Pipilo development recently. Mainly working on improvements to performance and reply/expansion logic.
One new thing that I can show is end of timeline view. Visible each time when there are no newer posts to display. It should make it less confusing for new users about what to do if it's no longer possible to swipe to more posts.
Version 0.27 of #Pipilo for Mastodon and Fediverse on #iOS is out with new sign in screen and initial app experience.
On first launch the app now works in anonymous mode where you can browse public posts from mastodon.social. That way you can see how the app works before deciding to sign in.
Started work on another #Pipilo update. This time focusing on initial app experience. First improvement will be allowing users to browse posts without authorization. That way they will be able to immediately experience how navigation in the app works.
Below is a work in progress screenshot of the new welcome screen with pagination and app mascot. Also decided to use new yellow color in interface instead of only green everywhere.
