Heute stellen wir euch ein #Amulett vor, das Unheil abwehrt und etwa ins 17. - 18. Jahrhundert datiert.. In der Mitte wird Jesus Christus dargestellt, daneben seine Namen auf Hebräisch. "Stay curious!" Today I experimented with this prototype of a portable pocket shrine or lucky charm. The piece can be hung open on the wall or carried as a small bag, or even worn around the neck with a ribbon. Inspired by 19th century #Breverl, by art books, amulets, old meditation pictures, and cabinets of curiosities. Could there be people who buy such things? 🤔
A #Breverl (a German word) is a folded piece of paper decorated with images of saints, sayings, prayers or Bible verses, which served as a #talisman and remedy and was widely used until the 20th century. In the middle they had a collection of #sacred or #symbolic stuff, offen pieces of supposed #relics. Although sold by Catholic monasteries, they were clearly #magic#amulets and "healing bags". Sometimes people even ate scraps to heal diseases.

I've really, really been enjoying crafting intentional things for people this season. We're doing a "no-buy" year, meaning that if we do give gifts to anyone, we're using items that we either already have on hand, or that we can forage from our land, or that we can make ourselves. I'm not sure how many of my partner's family members will adhere to our request for no gifts unless they're re-gifted or handmade, but at least amongst our friends it feels really nice to not have the pressure of spending a lot of money. I'm finding also that the gifts just mean so much more to people when they know that this is something that was really thought about deeply, and made for them.
I am posting my never-will-be-released Talisman expansion, replacing the Ruins space on the board. There were cards, too - both for the board and shuffling into the Adventure deck.
