📖 The book "Timor-Leste’s Long Road to Independence", edited by Zélia Pereira and Rui Graça Feijó, includes a chapter authored by Pedro Aires Oliveira where the historian discusses the reasons that allowed for the retention of Portuguese sovereignty in Timor until 1974. 🇹🇱

The LIE that “colonisation has only had positive effects for First Nations people” is being put forward by the L/NP; the party who has many a revered elder “statesman”:

How do you read/pronounced #ASEAN?

Within ASEAN, 9 out of 10 member nations pronounce it as “as·yan” (if you watch/listen). But here in the #Philippines most say it as “aa·si·yan”.

I just heard a third version today: “ey·sea·yan”.

BONUS:

For those not familiar with ASEAN, it is a regional group here in South-East Asia. It stands for the “Association of South-East Asian Nations”.

There are currently 10 member nations, namely:

There are two observer (potential member) countries:

There is also the #ASEANPlusThree (ASEAN+3), the +3 stands for #China, #Japan, and #Korea (#SouthKorea to be specific).

And the ASEAN+6 that, hopefully, will become the “East Asia Community”, and the added 3 nations are #Australia, #India, and #NewZealand.
