Apparently it's #WorldTurtleDay! A #Roman enamelled copper alloy fibula (a decorative pin for fastening garments) in the shape of a #turtle. Dating 2nd century AD.
It's #WorldTurtleDay! In 1754 the English botanist and author John Hill proposed a new constellation he called "Testudo" (the Tortoise). It didn't catch on with astronomers, but under dark night skies it can still be seen. Read more about it: https://unchartedconstellations.com/
For World Turtle Day, please enjoy this 54-million-year-old fossil of a baby sea turtle, which was found in Denmark and includes preserved soft tissue.
In fact, it's so well-preserved that scientists discovered molecules of a pigment that would have darkened the turtle's shell, perhaps to protect it against sun damage.
It's World Turtle Day, so here's my favorite turtle picture I've taken to date! It's always fun to see a turtle on a dive, especially when they are chill or even curious about us. This individual in Bonaire was not bothered as I snapped some pictures against the backdrop of the beautiful blue water.
Today is World Turtle Day. I was commissioned by Turtle Survival Alliance, to revisit my ‘Turtles, all the way down’ print again, with a variety of wonderful but sadly endangered turtle species of special focus, in 2 prints: 1 for turtles from around the world, and 1 for North American species. Turtle Survival Alliance works to prevent extinctions of these amazing and varied animals worldwide, 🧵 #linocut#printmaking#WorldTurtleDay#turtle#sciArt#conservation#endangeredSpecies#biodiversity

In May 2009, work sent me & 2 co-workers to KSC for the STS-125 launch. We were working STS-400, the “rescue” mission, if it was needed.
Flight controllers never got to go see launches because we always had to work launches.
So we were being silly & driving around KSC & the launch pads because seriously, why wouldn’t you…and we passed in front of the astronaut beach house (1/?)
