The remnants of Pollokshields-Glencairn Church on Shields Road. Designed by W.G. Rowan and built in 1891, it was destroyed by a fire in 1988. This fragment, with its impressively sculptured arch, was salvaged and re-built in a reduced form in the grounds of a modern housing development built in its place. Almost hidden by trees, few passing on Sheilds Road will notice it.

The former Pollokshields West Church on Shields Road on the Southside of Glasgow. Designed by W.G. Rowan and built in the late 1870s, it bears a striking resemblence to Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's 1850s Saint Vincent Street Church in the city centre, especially the square corner tower.

Our Lady of Assumption on Bilsland Drive in the Ruchill area of Glasgow. Designed by Thomas S. Cordiner, it was built in the 1950s, which must make it one of the last churches in the city built with red sandstone.

The former Langside Hill Church on the Southside of Glasgow. One of my favourite churches in the city, it was designed by Alexander Skirving. Dating from 1894, it was the last Classical style church constructed in Glasgow.

Sculptures of Love (top), Faith (lower left) and Hope (lower right) on the 1899 Art Nouveau style hall of Saint Andrew's East Church on Alexandra Parade in Glasgow. Between the three figures is an inscription which says "Greatest of these is love", a sentiment that's as true today as it was when it was carved.

Saint Ninian's Church in the Knightswood area of Glasgow. Built in a restrained Gothic style in the late 1950s, this was one of the final churches designed by Charles H. Purcell, the last surviving member of the legendary ecclesiastical Gothic architects Pugin and Pugin which operated from 1851 until 1958.
