Tamarix gallica - the French tamarisk - it is Indigenous to & areas.

Don't put this plant into ground as it's invasive to & best in contained/controlled setting. If you choose to grow it indoors - run a fan on plant, while misting it with water to simulate outdoor grow conditions twice/week.
Very similar to native oceanspray plants.

French tamarisk plant with thousands of pinkish white blossoms - holding two branches in my left hand.

I finally grew a delicious ! I think this is a Danish ballhead, from West Coast Seeds. It’s been ready for at least a month but it held perfectly in the ground and it was so sweet!
Factors that helped this orb succeed where the first couple I harvested didn’t (I think):
• I harvested the first two (both bad, different reasons) at least six weeks ago, when the weather was warmer. This cabbage got one light frost and many chilly nights.
• I let the chickens get to it at the right size for them to be effective bug control. They’ll just devour small brassicas complete, but this cabbage bed was netted until they were starting to head up. Then I pulled the netting and the chickens started scratching the bed up getting all the bugs out. They ate all the guard leaves off this cabbage, but they didn’t really hurt the part the humans want. And there were only a few weird little wormy dudes living in the base of this cabbage, hell yeah!
• Even the chickens can’t save me from weird wormy dudes and slug eggs if the bed is overcrowded. Yes, the seedlings look so small. No, future me, you cannot under any circumstances put more than four of them in a bed.
• I wish I’d written, you know, anything down this year. But now I have adhd meds, and for the first time in my life, I’m feeling hopeful that next year really will be different.

Edit: my alt text is a fucking masterpiece, y’all

Action shot of the inside of the cabbage. It’s a rich spring green on the outside, fading to a buttery, washed out yellow-green. The texture is very loose. This photo is also a masterpiece if I do say so myself. The beans have receded to the background and now there’s a corner of blue sky window visible in the top left. The money shot of the cabbage is slightly center right, so the eye is drawn nicely to it. A Dutch still life painter would weep.

My crazy back patio. Someday I will paint the house and fix my patio cover, but for now I will just enjoy it with my plants!
