Hello #sewing people.
I'm trying to modify this dress so it will match my style more. I want to go for a classic goth or romantic look.
I don't have any idea, everytime I try something I find it hideous :blob_cat_oh_no:
I was thinking making a top and a skirt so it will suit me better.
Got to do some evening #sewing after dinner today. Nothing crazy, just overlocked some cotton jersey before pre-washing it. Curious about what it feels like after washing! @sewing
Spent the afternoon tidying up my #sewing room and completing some tiny projects (mostly #alterations) that were taking up space. I can’t work in a messy environment. Maybe it’s a problem…
I made my wife these brown corduroy pants back in October 2020. I like how they look now better than when they were new, but they ripped beyond repair earlier this month. 2½ years of frequent use isn’t bad, no?
I don’t know why I like to salvage the #zippers, but I do. @sewing
Thank you, @FediFollows for the mention today!!! So as not to disappoint everyone while I work on a boring muslin bodice block today, I thought I'd share the very first shirt I drafted and designed about a couple of years ago. #sewing
@FediFollows I got a lot of new followers yesterday (welcome!) so many thanks for mentioning me in your #sewing picks of the day! Heading into my sewing room now, let’s see if any posts come of it…
I remember my sewing project were a teddy bear & shirt. I still have the sewing pattern.
I really enjoyed that class. It's been 37 years since I took that class, but I have used my sewing skills in a pinch often and used to make peanut butter & other no-bake oatmeal cookies often.
Sewing the fourth time this pattern from Patty Doo (and it’s the third one for my sister). This time in a smoky blue romanit jersey with 3/4 sleeves and without the hood. #sewing@sewing
So I am a convert to leather thimbles, especially the ones by Clover. SO comfy! :D Unfortunately, they wear out pretty quickly, so I ordered a second one, and… yeah. There are some quality issues here. :\
Left was my first thimble, the right is the new one; same size, S. Visibly smaller, and is much harder to get on my finger. Also the quality of the leather stamping isn't as nice.
finally finished restoring my Nana's singer sewing machine, had to let the case dry for five months, then consolidate the wood, match original varnish, find the right drawer handles, fill holes. while my engineer took the machine to bits and gave her a good clean and replace a few parts. ain't she pretty #sewing
@xibee Haha, I agree 100%. I realized not too long ago that some of the biggest #sewing channels on YouTube are actually all talk, no sewing. People look up to some of them, but have you ever actually seen them sew?! Unfortunately the channels where it’s all instructive sewing and little or no personality have a hard time growing or reaching a large audience.
The project was on pause for a bit. Inserted the last cardboard piece in the arm hole. Put a pillow inside to get a preview of the finished form. F u n
A new #sewing make in the works: a petticoat. I will be using a lining ripped off from another garment, a bunch of torn embroidered tulles, and a damaged tutu to make it.
@sewing this is what I meant by sandwiching layers of embroidered tulle scraps inside the waistband. And yes, there’s some boning inserts, too! #sewing#slowfashion
Machine stitched the outer shell of waistband panels, and pinned the facing panels on the inside. I love seeing the embroidery details peeking through the fabrics.
Doing an enclosed waistband for a petticoat can be tricky. Despite going super slowly with an industrial machine AND hand basting, there were sections that didn’t catch.
Hand back stitching to the rescue! Of course these stitches are practically invisible on the outside shell. 🪡🧐
Earth Day is every day! Enjoying the sunny weather by spending precious time with the finished petticoat. Really happy to give an “afterlife” to these tulle scraps.
