The finished Cat Quilt! Mom likes it and was also very taken with the little tote I made her. "I'm going to take it to yoga, they're going to think it's so cute."
Her comment after laying it out to take these photos was that it's huge! Yes, mum, that's why it took me about three times as long as I thought it would. 😆
But it's done and where it belongs now!
Anyone want to share their opinions on #SewingMachines? I may be interested in buying a new one. I have a 20 yr old Janome that is so loud I can't use it when anyone is home because they complain. It's also cranky & I could never get it to make good stitches consistently. I want to make my own clothing & since this is probably a passing fancy, I'd like to not pay an arm & a leg for it. (Maybe a second hand deal?) I don't mind an older machine and I don't want anything computer-y. #craft#sewing
A painting of my mama. She was gifted a Singer sewing machine in 1969, and through that work she fed myself and my brother growing up. We owe our lives to that Singer machine. She still has it. They used to be impossible to break!
So here are the pictures of my mending on my purple stretch leggings.
No idea why the colours are so drastically different in each picture when it's exactly the same pair of leggings, but hopefully the pictures illustrate the mending of the hole!
I have a copy of the 1970 Vogue Book of Sewing and it is super useful and (but?) whenever I read it I hear the text in the voice of the computer from Star Trek.
I also made this dress I never wore into a skirt I might sometimes wear. And from a loosely fitting skirt to a snugly fitting wrap skirt, too!
The hem is asymmetrical, voluminous and has square handkerchief edges and weird bits that give it lots of movement.
Here, a clip it's too dark to see much of!
Learned something fascinating from the Återskapat #podcast. Amica Sundström and Maria Neijman have activated a major #Medieval source material that nobody seems to have touched before. There is no mention of it in the bibliographical databases. The huge KLNM encyclopedia has a single sentence about it: "Seals were often protected by fabric or leather bags and, towards the end of the Middle Ages, by metal cases" (15:194).
The National Archives in Stockholm hold hundreds of these seal bags. They're made from Medieval fabric that has been kept indoors, in the dark, since they were made. They pretty much retain their original colours! It's a fabric sample archive! With calendar dates!
Just finished this 80s inspired jacket in satin: has two zipper welt pockets on front, and one exposed zipper pocket in lining. Closes with polished metal zipper and has rib at collar, cuffs and waist. Multi-color geometric piecing in two colors with top-stitch throughout. Designed by me ❤️ #sewing#handmade#memademay#apparel#crafting
“The sad thing is: the cheaper the clothing that we buy, the more likely the money is to bypass anyone that you would consider nice and end up in the pockets of somebody you would consider to be a bastard.” Patrick Grant
I’m probably not shooting any new #video this week after all, but I’m having a very fun time setting up overhead cameras, lighting, microphones, audio gear, stream deck, software, cabling, etc. in my #sewing room. I’m trying to set it up so I can record long-form #YouTube videos without much if any setup, but also something that will work well for live streaming in 4K 60fps eventually too. And of course, all without getting in the way of actual sewing in an already tight space! @sewing
@Stoffsuchti@sewing So far I’ve setup four iPhones and two iPads, which work well for what I need (overhead ironing station, overhead cutting table, closeups on #sewing machines, etc.)
I also have a security camera mounted on the ceiling and the webcam on my MacBook Pro if I absolutely need them…
I was at a camera shop after my doctor appointment today, considering upgrading my old DSLR body so I can use all my nice lenses, but I don’t think I’ll spend that kind of money anytime soon…
Here’s a photo of a some #sewing samples & muslin I made (to fit my wife) while pattern testing Thread Theory’s Bamberton Shorts last month…
Now that the pattern is finalized, I’ll be making her a modified pair in some sea foam blue cotton/linen she picked out this past weekend, then shooting a video of me making a pair for myself. @sewing
The great 2024 #decluttering has turned up this. It’s a washable colouring in map thingy. I’m very tempted to turn it into a small quilt. Maybe with flags around the outside as a border? Could maybe colour in the critters with embroidery? 🤔
