Getting around to posting some recent sketches I've done while traveling for work.... This is my view at #bradleyinternationalairport for my trip to Springfield, Ma, Worcester, MA and Albany, NY.
Working hard to simplify and paint more, draw less.
Em 2020, o Urban Sketchers Florianópolis fez um encontro virtual pelo Street View no Morro da Mariquinha, em Florianópolis (subindo uma rua em frente ao Instituto, na Mauro Ramos).
The café we stayed at was surprisingly cozy and we had an amazing view out on the main streets of the city, so the setting looked much more urban from inside a café than usual!
Tried out a "Uni Pin" ink pen of a fellow #urbansketchers member -- it's suuuuuper nice to draw with it. Little to no friction! Very uniform lines. Getting one for myself, I think.
Hey hey #watercolor folks, this is Daniel Smith's Imperial Purple and it's an old-ish tube (maybe a year?). It completely breaks apart every time into purple and this bleh granular pink. Do you use this color, and is this normal? (I thought Cascade broke apart badly too but turns out I just had a bum tube, the second one works beautifully.)
Took a free online sketching class from TobySketchLoose. It was really fun and took away my fear of going in ink first(no pencil sketch). Not worrying about mistakes, and having a bit more fun with colours. I’m not quite as free and loose with drawing as I’d like to get, but his class took me forward! #UrbanSketching#WatercolourAndInk#UrbanSketchers
Sketching Victorians along the Panhandle last Saturday with the Sunset Sketchers. Sketches here by Tim Ward, Matt Wills and Lisa Burns.

Today the Utrecht urbansketchers group went to Castle Zuilen.
This is my drawing. I had some struggles with perspective first. Then I decided not to think about the rules to much and fasten up a bit. Good decision. It was inspiring to loosen up and I had more fun. I like the contrast between the building and plants in the foreground. #Utrecht#urbansketching#urbansketchers#sketching#SlotZuilen#castle#drawing
Urban sketching is all about sketching on location. The location is up to you.
Pre-pandemic, I sketched in cafes a lot. Some people sketch on public transport, from inside their car, or at home. Anywhere is fine, so long as you're drawing from life.
If it's too hot to sketch outside, try and find a shady spot early or late in the day. Remember sunscreen, a hat, and always stay hydrated.
167/365 another fast sketching session in the morning and a few tweaks later in the evening. Learned my lesson to always carry a spare ink cartridge in case I run out.
