AlexSup21,

Definetly an American thing. First time seeing this lamp.

AlexSup21,

If only we could see mod names in the modlog…

AlexSup21,

Oh, that’s cool. But it would be cooler if it was visible in the instances’ modlog aswell

AlexSup21,

All. When I don’t like a certain community I block them.

Can banner we get banner ads adjusted? (lemmy.world)

With the ad adjustment came these banner ads on the top of comment sections and they are atrocious so much so I don’t bother reading comments anymore. They all have the obnoxious white backgrounds and they flicker since they move. It feels light no matter my phones britness they are blinding and since content doesnt get loads...

AlexSup21,

Same here. I like Jerboa but it drives me nuts with the new way votes are displayed. I gotta calculate how much upvotes a post/comment has.

AlexSup21,

What's (are) the funniest/stupidest way(s) you've broken your linux setup?

Tinkering is all fun and games, until it’s 4 am, your vision is blurry, and thinking straight becomes a non-option, or perhaps you just get overly confident, type something and press enter before considering the consequences of the command you’re about to execute… And then all you have is a kernel panic and one thought...

Yo, what was your first computer? How old were you, where and how did you get it, what did you do with it, etc.

TL;DR It was an old Wang system, 286 processor(I think, anyway), with no hard drive, a 5.25" floppy drive, and a lovely green monochrome monitor. I didn’t have it long enough to reach the point where I could have identified the actual hardware/specs....

AlexSup21,

In the 2010s my family had a HP Compaq SFF with Windows 7.

Should I move to Docker?

I’m a retired Unix admin. It was my job from the early '90s until the mid '10s. I’ve kept somewhat current ever since by running various machines at home. So far I’ve managed to avoid using Docker at home even though I have a decent understanding of how it works - I stopped being a sysadmin in the mid '10s, I still worked...

AlexSup21, (edited )

I couldn’t get used to Docker at all before using Portainer. GUIs are great if you can’t use CLI.

AlexSup21,

Doesn’t drive me crazy, but in Polish some people don’t know when to use “u” or “ó”, “sz” or “rz”, etc. Ex. “usemka” and “pszejście” instead of “ósemka” and “przejście”.

AlexSup21,

High school computer class. I was like: “Hey! This is pretty cool.” And the rest is history.

It's never been a better time to switch to Firefox (www.androidpolice.com)

• Firefox offers better privacy and security than Chrome, with upcoming support for 200 new add-ons. • While Chrome dominates, Firefox gains ground with user-friendly browsing experience and open-source model. • Mozilla’s focus on user privacy and transparency challenges Google’s ad-centric approach, making Firefox a...

AlexSup21,

I switched to Nightly because standard FF doesn’t have the add-ons I want. I can confirm they work great.
