I want you to understand how awful this game is:

If you don't turn vsync on, you can't move. Framerates over 60fps cause the inputs to glitch out.

That's right, "hold RIGHT control to run" is not the worst thing about these controls.

I guess what this week has taught me with the run of "I have no idea any other music exists???" Taylor Swift articles is there's a whole bunch of people in music too who don't know what to do when a massively anticipated release turns out to be merely 'it's alright' and their takes go full bed shitting trying to work around it.

Videogames are not alone. Though that it's leaked into videogames news too is a pretty funny bonus.

As I say, I don't have any particularly strong feelings about Taylor Swift or their music either way. Couple of pop slammers aside, it does nothing for me so just leave it to the people who it does work for.

This is just a terrible bugbear of mine in general when it comes to critique. I genuinely don't understand why it's so difficult to wrap your head around expensive things / famous names / whatever being "alright, I guess". It's not a bad thing, is it? It's alright! Enjoy it.

@craiggrannell It's been a very long while since I read it now but an awful lot of Literally was spent on Tennant's preoccupation with Bros - and more to the point what Bros got and had they didn't - he's always been kinda weird about other pop stars and other pop music, and lots of other things now I think on.

Albarn's not even funny with it though, just kinda sad.

Of all the things the past ten years or so has brought me, a diminishing amount of subtlety and a complete lack of tolerance for bigots and cruelty has been the one forever caught between "gosh Rob, bit blunt mate" and "I wish I'd been this person from the off ,,, but was taught not to make a fuss"

But! The way it gives the kids a laugh is solid gold worth it too so there's also that.

@Jayenkai Yeah, we don't get a local paper delivered anymore after Em kicked off at them for delivering UKIP leaflets through our door so they blacklisted the house and nobody is allowed to deliver here (!). As long as I've lived here we've had a mix of careerists and just the worst people, our MP is acceptable and consistently votes for the good things but the challengers every time are unhinged bigots and conspiracy theorists. It's exhausting.

Console store policies are useless for 2024.

The big three's console policies aren't working and they're certainly not fit for purpose in 2024. Whilst it's easy for plenty of people to look at the weekly releases of games on consoles, see a bunch of just not very good things and pop on the amateur biz analysis hat and decide the problem here is there are too many games, not only is that very silly but it's also completely ignoring the systemic problems that currently…

Like, aesthetically it's way too boring for me and I can't be doing with Metroidvania games anymore but that's my taste rather than anything especially against the game itself existing in any way.

Though, I would totally be tempted to give it a go if it had leaned into the original Yars aesthetic because it's a beautiful fucking videogame and all these years on, takes my breath away still.
