Earth…quake? Or my house is just falling over in the wind?wtf.

Wow, yup. 4.8. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/

It’s official, moving back east was a mistake! First the wildfire smoke, now the quakes.

CuriousMagpie,
@CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

@bitprophet I’m in NW Massachusetts - and didn’t feel it but a friend a few miles south did.
I didn’t experience any earthquakes during the decade I lived in Montana, but the wildfires after moving back east were a rude awakening.

    The attacks on aid workers in Gaza should not surprise us. And I wonder why some people are more outraged by the deaths of these workers than the deaths of innocent civilians including babies. Am I being particularly autistic here? @actuallyautistic

    @Susan60 @actuallyautistic Nope - you’re being compassionately human.

    I started reading Octavia Butler's "Parable of the Sower," and it's really good, but it's also a very possible post-apocalyptic USA set in 2024, and it's actually giving me nightmares. I might have to stop...she's an amazing author. Maybe a bit too good.

    CuriousMagpie,
    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @sundogplanets oof - I haven’t read them in a few years and forgot it was set … now. Absolutely worth reading, though emotionally challenging.
    I just started reading The Future of Another Timeline by @annaleen and had frightening dreams last night. It’s hard to see the truth even when it’s told slant. And necessary, for me.

    Tell me a silly/funny childhood story!

    I'll start:

    One time in Sunday School, the teacher was talking about the difference between humans and animals, and mentioned that Animals had Tails and humans didn't. I let her know this was not true, because my Dad had a tail, just in the front, instead of the back. The teacher was silent for several seconds, and tried to correct me in a church appropriate way, but I doubled down, and insisted that my little brothers also had front tails too. This got so heated that the teacher had to go get my parents to take me out of Sunday School.

    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @RickiTarr best. story. ever.

    My story is about my younger sister - when she was in elementary school she would pretend the dog’s toy was a microphone and prance and swivel around the living room pretending to be Tom Jones.

    I posted a big, angry thread this morning and then stayed entirely off social media all day while visiting some super beautiful badlands in southern Saskatchewan. (Seriously, so beautiful, I had no idea that kind of landscape was nearby.)

    Do I want to wade into my mentions which have likely mostly degraded into weird arguments and reply guys, or pretend like it never happened?

    A dirt road through a wide valley with scrubby brush, with a "cattle at large" sign under a bright blue sky, with many black cattle visible in the distance
    A view across shrubby dry hills, with a few rocks sticking out, one with bright orange lichen on it. There are some scrubby canyons, and a bright blue sky above with some light clouds

    CuriousMagpie,
    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @sundogplanets such a beautiful landscape!
    (I didn’t notice any negative posts from this morning)

    I’m learning about brain zaps - they feel like electric shocks in your brain. They are a lovely side effect [yes, that is sarcasm] of stopping venlafaxine (effexor) before trying a different antidepressant for preventing chronic migraine.

    I also feel like I just got hit by a truck and every inch of my body hurts.

    tbh - I am now afraid of trying the new antidepressant (nortriptyline).

    Suggestions via your personal experience welcome (no mansplaining)

    @actuallyautistic

    CuriousMagpie,
    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @PattyHanson @actuallyautistic oh my goodness, I don’t think I would be that brave to stop everything at once. I am going to wait a little longer to be sure that a new medication is what I want. I also don’t like that feeling of being numb to everything. Although, tbh, it was nice to chill out for a little while.

    CuriousMagpie,
    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @andybrwn @bhawthorne @actuallyautistic you are so right!! Both the doctor and the pharmacist said I was taking such a low-dose I should have no problems. They were quite wrong.
    In a way, feeling betrayed by my health providers is almost as bad as the pain of withdrawal.

    CuriousMagpie,
    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @DebR @actuallyautistic I hope that “back to the way they were” isn’t too painful for you. I have really mixed feelings about antidepressants. They have been incredibly helpful to me and others, I know. And sometimes their drawbacks aren’t worth it.

    CuriousMagpie,
    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @PattyHanson @actuallyautistic Continuity of care is such an issue, even with the same doctor! I hope you’re getting better care now ❤️‍🩹

    CuriousMagpie,

    @PattyHanson @actuallyautistic Well, now you made me cry - thank you, that brings me the hope I needed today 💗

    @andybrwn @bhawthorne @actuallyautistic Andy, “don’t stick with anything that doesn’t make you feel good“ is good life advice!

    CuriousMagpie,
    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @PattyHanson @actuallyautistic I honestly think I would be in much worse shape if not for folks like you and others who have been so generous in my various online communities - this is how it should be.

    CuriousMagpie,
    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @AnnieGolden @actuallyautistic Yes! That’s a great description of the brain zaps. I’ve been dealing with them for about a week - sometimes multiple zaps/minute.
    I took a very low dose of the new med (nortriptyline) about 2 hours ago and the zaps are gone!!!
    I will tell my doc about how you tapered with an intermediary med if I need to switch meds.
    Thank you so much!

    Family: Are you going to church on insert religious holiday?

    Me: Not if the church doesn't believe everyone deserves equal rights.

    Family: Why are you being difficult?

    Me: My values are important to me.

    CuriousMagpie,
    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @design_law I just finished reading Hild and Menewood by Nicola Griffith, they were worth the almost 1 year wait from my library.
    Now I’m taking a trip back in time to books I read in the 1970s - The Chronicles of Tornor by Elizabeth A Lynn. Haven’t read them in many years and am enjoying them a lot.
    I have some short stories by Susan Kaye Quinn waiting in the wings 🙂

    Whoops I didn't let myself cry yesterday cuz I was just too tired.

    CuriousMagpie,
    @CuriousMagpie@mastodon.social avatar

    @dyani It’ll come out of the blue for a while - grieving is a really personal process. When my husband died I only cried when I was alone. After my divorce from my second husband, I didn’t cry but I felt so heavy for a long time. Do you and be okay with it ❤️‍🩹
