So, Ive been playing with VOIP and I have been stuck with a strange issue I failed to debug for 3+ weeks.

When sending a SIP packet with an SDP payload I always get an error "Error parsing/validating SDP body: Invalid SDP descriptor " from my Asterisk Server

Regardless of payload.

Ive been through the RFC, I've taken logs, Ive tried three versions of Asterisk, nothing worked.

Tonight I took a wireshark of the UDP

Again, nothing looked out of place, apart from a 0 after the final CR/LF of the SDP payload

This does not show up in any logs (why would it ?)

Of course I'm sending this as a C string, of course it's zero terminated. DOH!

and removing the Zero, Fixes the problem...

Just putting this here in case anyone else spends as much time as me (>35 hours) debugging something similar.

Confused this morning after looking at my energy usage on the Octopus app. I have exported a lot of electricity this month, and imported very little. Yet my earnings were minimal and my payments a lot higher than expected.

It turns out the app has swapped the order it gives each reading has been swapped around. Phew!

@semachthemonkey does this also explain the bright light coming from your solar cells now ?

When a site takes a whole minute to load their javashit and presents you with a "Can't show you text because of GDPR" you can be sure they're a very slimy business.

Extelec,

@harshad Yes, of course I can help you, but first you MUST watch a 5 minute advert from my sponsor.

I did a thing.

A related thing.

Okay, I'll tell you, but stop begging - it's embarrassing for both of us and everyone who's watching.

I've obtained a Limited Manufacture Licence for some iconic music tracks to be released as an album of and cover versions on and

Now I just need to find some interested artists to join me in this ridiculous endeavour.

people are like "you should care about the web being slow in third world countries" but unless you count the UK as a third world country it's fucking unusable elsewhere

try using, for example, matrix (the instant messaging system) on a train or in a hotel

sometimes i wonder if it only gets tested on localhost

Extelec,
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

@whitequark Ive been hosting web sites for 15+ years.

When I started the average web site was ~80K now the average javascript download for even the most simple of web sites is >2M do they need it. No.

If we can get back to straight HTML / Server scripts / backend

This problem goes away, web sites and hosting get cheaper and apparently much faster.

Plus the power required to serve the pages plummets.

Extelec,
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

@whitequark yes 100%...

and mostly to update the time or something totally worthless.

What do you change for maximum chaos?

today in "why the hell does arch"

Why the hell does arch provide 32 /dev/ttySXX nodes? They are not serial ports... is there no convention for these to be /dev/ttyXX?

Looks like pyserial assumes there is (based on a 23 year old source only available via Archive.org), since it globs /dev/ttyS* but ignores /dev/tty*...

Extelec,
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

@gadgetoid iirc the ttyS was a handle to the control pins of the ttys port.

Extelec,
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

@gadgetoid something like that... itsbeen a while. Need to look at the man page for gettys.

Extelec,
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

@gadgetoid I think lowercase is for virtual devices and uppercase was for Hardware devices.

Manu of my pre2000 serial cards were detected as both, hence the S used for signals and s for terminal use.

No wonder people get pished.

I ordered 3 items for delivery from B & Q

Two items were passed to a "partner" of B&Q so I get an email from them.

Each of those two items are from different suppliers so I got a despatch email from each supplier.

Plus a despatch email for the remaining item from B&Q

I've now had three emails from 2 different couriers giving delivery times.

That's 6 different sources of email for a single purchase

4 of these emails are from companies I've never heard of.

@stoneymonster breed from them, Young Z80's can fetch a really good price now. and they tend to have litters of 25 or so.

Downside is they will eat a huge amount of NE555's until they are fully grown.

One of the selectors in my is stubbornly returning NU tone when connecting out to a tie-line

The TL relay isn’t operating fully, so doesn’t hold in properly.

I dealt with a similar fault back in 2017, but stupidly didn’t make detailed notes - so I’ve got the diagrams out…

Briefly back onto the Farnsworths. Finished both cases, but one of the displays died, and the replacement sent was wrong. So waiting (again) to get the second one running.

Moved the Strowger script and the test card script onto an Internet facing server. Currently, I can only try the test card and remote loop back.

Farnsworth video phone from Warehouse 13 showing me. Black 3d printed case with gold inlay a knob and a lens like display.

After waiting 1 week for a replacement display, then another week for the "correct" display from the supplier. I've proved it was a data line on the PiPicow that was faulty
