Shutting down Google Domains is one of the dumbest product decisions Google has made yet.

Contrast this to Cloudflare’s strategy, which got into the domain registration business intentionally to manage domains at cost for customers. There is no cloud with domain names. It is an obvious component of GCP.

I started watching “Extrapolations” on Apple TV+ a few weeks ago. I wanted to believe it was a worst case scenario plot, but recent climate events are freaking out scientists.

Firefox for iOS 113.1 crashed and lost 100+ open tabs. It Marie Kondo’ed the tabs I could never bring myself to close or take action on. I assume this is why 113.2 was a fast follow release.

Apple’s app store rules block Firefox from allowing people to install extensions like my handy Tab Tosser. https://www.jeremiahlee.com/tab-tosser/

I just spent 20 minutes writing a bug issue on GitHub, navigated away from the page when previewing it, accidentally closed the tab instead of going back, and lost the draft.

Whhyyy does GitHub not have a local storage saved draft…

Here are some story templates you can use to promote and the to your friends.

  1. Download the 2 images

  2. Put a link sticker to https://joinmastodon.org/apps on the “try Mastodon” image. Add a fun arrow sticker to draw attention.

  3. Put a link sticker to your fediverse profile, but with your handle as text on the “follow me” image.

Example attached.

You can follow me on Mastodon: Mastodon is the only Twitter alternative that: • has over 11 million people using it • is truly federated, meaning no single company “owns” it • will be supported by WordPress, Tumblr, and more soon!

Excited to be speaking at APIdays Helsinki June 5 & 6 about more secure, resilient, ecological IoT with Leaf Computing.

Apidays Helsinki is the Nordic edition of hugely popular global events. The organizers are expecting 500+ participants and the speaker lineup is impressive with leaders from Nordea, OP Financial Group, VW, Deutsche Telekom, Fintraffic, AWS, and AT&T.

Hope to see some of you there!

51% of the Swedish immigrants who will be forced to leave under a proposed Moderaterna and SD policy will be recent university graduates with the most in-demand skills, according to a study by the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise.

Institutionalizing xenophobia with public policy intended to limit "low-qualified labor migrants" is bad for the economy.

What level Marriott Bonvoy status gets me a room without tiny lights or panels glowing at night?

Power outlets that support the weight of a wall wart?

How about for a tv with motion smoothing and color modifications disabled?

I didn’t bring enough duct tape to cover all the lights in my room AND hold my laptop power in the socket.

Every time I have to code a HTML table I miss Macromedia Dreamweaver a whole fuckin’ lot. Where is the open source version of that?

I wish VS Code had a barebones WYSIWYG editor. I think it would replace most Markdown use cases for me.

I still think the swipe down from the right third to get to control center and swipe down from the remaining ⅔ to get to notifications is a terrible UX on iOS. There is no/little affordance to their behavior.

Similarly, I cannot tell you what tapping the digital crown, side button, and swiping up and down does on the Apple Watch Ultra. I just cycle thru all of them until I get the screen I’m looking for.

Research does not support the widespread belief that blue light emitted by electronic device screens in the evening is worse than warmer colored light when trying to fall asleep.

My next #WeblogPoMo2024 post is an expansion of an earlier thread on Mastodon.

The Mous IntraLock system is the best phone mount for cycling:

• physical—not just magnetic—attachment
• thin: no bulky connector in the way of MagSafe
• fast attachment: clicks in with just downward force
• fast detachment: squeeze holder buttons
• strong: I can lift my bike by my attached phone

I started with the handlebar mount, but then got the stem mount for better placement.

Mous is running a 25% off referral code promotion until end of month.

When annoying companies text me in Sverige, I can never just reply to the message to unsubscribe. I have to send the special stop keyword to a completely different number, which involves 2 copy/paste steps. In the US, I would just respond to the sender.

Why is text message marketing in Sverige more fucked up?

The origin of semlor:

Swedes were shown a delicious French cream puff and challenged to create their own cultural cuisine icon.

They took the same ingredients, baked a plain dinner roll, cut the top third off, piled bland whipped cream and a squirt of almond paste for a hint of flavor in between the slices, sprinkled some sugar on top, and yelled, “Nailed it!” to a bemused Nicole Byer and Jacques Torres.

PostNord charging a declaration fee greater than the import VAT should be illegal.

Just paid 100kr (including 20kr VAT on the service fee itself) for a 6kr import tax.

(Translation for US: $10 fee to pay a 60 cent tax.)

I don’t even know what the package is.
