We have 428 users so far, so I think we're still growing?

I go down the local timeline quite often, and of everyone on there, I already follow about 90% of them, if not more.

I follow 144, so I don't know if the others are just very inactive? Is there a way to see how many active users there are, vs. just the number of accounts?

Last week I did a Mastodon survey asking when was the best weekday for candidates to send an enthusiastic email.
Tuesday, the people voted.

Ok, that makes sense I think.
I compose my enthusiastic email Monday evening, schedule it to be sent Tuesday morning, stress about it all night until 9am of course.

At 9:01am I receive an automatic reply: this person is out of the office for a while.

Failed my job application timing check once again 🙃

Downloaded + testing out some (unpaid) Mastodon iOS apps, as well as all the web-clients on my iPhone.

Using the official Mastodon site as a reference for the apps / clients available, as well as any apps I can find in my iOS app store.

Very excited. 🙂

So far it has some great features, like:
a) sorting the posts by time, best, etc.
b) previewing your post
c) pinning your favourite notifications view
d) the text copy / edit tool is amazing

On the Phanpy web-client for Mastodon, every time I want to reply (on desktop it seems) then there is no reply button. I have to zoom in or out, or have to press enter to make a new line and then it suddenly appears.

So, I've been playing with Kagi search this week, and I do quite like it:

I've been seriously fed up with Google's search recently: results full of ads and/or SEO spam, to the point that it's hard to find info.

The results in kagi search are overall good (though the map is really lacking), but it's just very expensive. I'd definitely need their $10 per month plan, and I'm not sure I could justify this, given there is free (though arguably worse) competition. 🤔

I guess I could cycle through the trial by creating a new account every week (the joys of having my own domain name) but that seems a little ridiculous, too 😆

Surprised not to find more tags on Mastodon. Wanted to see what others think of it. But yes, I tried the $5 basic package, but ran out of searches in less than a month. And $10 is just too much for a search engine. I don’t use it nearly as much as it offers. Perhaps I should stick to for regular searches, for images and Kagi for special searches on the basic package.

I find that curious. If that's so, I'm sure there might be more people on here that feel that way.

Perhaps someone / admin could do an announcement with a poll, and see what the people say. Can't be too much work, literally changing the logo. BUT the instance name might be an issue?

Or is it more about the feeling it had on the other site, and not the name at all?

Oh okay that’s very interesting, so T2 as a name did evoke something? I know it was changed due to its reference to Twitter2?

And so I guess even if this instance changed its name, it wouldn’t make a difference anymore for you?

Oh okay now I understand. I see the pebbles as warm and baked in the sun on the beach or in nature, huddled together. And T2 for me was a cold placeholder. But every person has their feelings and ideas, which is very interesting. :-))

    Moving to invites for Tooters will still allow the community to grow slowly over time, and it’s not as if public registrations were high to begin with.

    In the month of October 144 accounts were created. 21 of those were migrations from other instances, 97 were spam, and of the remaining 26 accounts only 3 are active now.

    New fedi users mostly don’t stick around. Invites won’t hinder people who want to migrate to Tooters. It removes spam and abuse of ‘request an account’ entirely.

    This is very similar to what I mentioned on a post here on :pebble: about a new user harassing some other users. (Japanese specifically)

    @victor That's very strange, it's been nothing but wholesome on our side, apart from one character.

    Is it a big thing out there about Pebble joining? It's sad though, as a lot of "Pebblers" already had Mastodon accounts, so they just follow the chats. Where as the others just wanted to keep a community alive. :-(

    Oh wow that is something I never thought would happen. Pebble was so small and we’re only like 400 users, maybe.

    Oh well, perhaps some people just don’t want anybody messing with what is a safe space. So I understand. Like how they are against Threads federating too, perhaps.
