333 — Do you write any characters who are a part of the + community?

I don't have a lot, but West (West Flows) surprised me by declaring he was gay. I will admit I struggled with that, until I realized that love is just love. And he is very much in love with his Jeko.

I hope that more characters will come out as queer. I think my Moon might be. (She's the MC in the book after Sun Burns.)

@Firlefanz Well Titannica is trans, and Phobia Effect/Mouse are a couple (and both girls.) So yeah?

Here's an assertion that should be fairly agreeable with a second of consideration:

In a trad game, when it comes to how much gravity the game mechanics exert on play, the pull of the character sheet and the things the player imagines based on it is notably stronger than the great majority of of other rules. It's the dwarf star of rules gravity.

@pteryx @LeviKornelsen If you'd like, send me some of the information and I'd be glad to help you brainstorm. I love game design.

Silverlion,
@Silverlion@dice.camp avatar

@pteryx @LeviKornelsen Let me think on this. Generally, I handle mysteries where the clues are semi-determined by what the player asks to look for, and I let them think about them a bit and then as a GM encourage them to work on what it means through RP and experience rewards. However, I see how that would be a problem for your style.

Silverlion,
@Silverlion@dice.camp avatar

@pteryx @LeviKornelsen Have you considered a set of mechanics that are basically "Clue A+B+C=X" and then slowly wean them off the X, by asking them to make their own suppositions about it?

Silverlion,
@Silverlion@dice.camp avatar

@pteryx @LeviKornelsen Not pulling the rug, explain in advance that you'll help them early on but eventually it will be up to them.

Always wise to talk to your players about how things are going to go.

Ugh. Just saw someone blatantly violating my copyright over on Ye Merrye Drive Thru, to the tune of an entire book.

I strongly suspect it's an innocent mistake, something devoid of malice or sneaky intent ... but ugh. I mostly just hate having to email the DTRPG people; they've never been easy to work with on anything, and previous copyright-violation issues have been minor nightmares.

@SJohnRoss If you need to talk online when stuff like this happens you know you can poke me. I hope they sort this mess out.

    For people who like eBooks, just a reminder (because I forgot about them myself) that Standard Ebooks exists, making prettier (but still free) versions of Gutenburg stuff.

    And because I know my people, let me just link directly to the fantasy stuff:

    I believe it's important to watch A Knight's Tale before playing or running Ars Magica.

    Because nothing will prime you to play a bunch of absurd, nose-picking, fart-joke-making Grog support characters like that movie, and it's very important that the focal Magus of the moment and their serious companion(s) get to sigh and say "I'm surrounded by morons".

    Silverlion,
    @Silverlion@dice.camp avatar

    @LeviKornelsen Surprisingly that makes a lot of sense.

    People who make free RPG stuff (like me) need a kickstarter-style site called Redliner, where people who want the free thing pledge to read and give redline-style editorial feedback on X number of pages before release, and get credited for doing so.

    This year Hearts & Souls 2E will come out. I now have most of the examples for my supers game thanks to a fellow writer (mostly retired) helping me.

    In addition to that I'm focusing on trying to get Archive Space (my space opera game) out as well, though I will be grabbing art for a bit.

    @LeviKornelsen What I don't understand at times is every time they add a book (feats, subclass) that is often a bunch of new rules they'd have to learn anyway.

    Sure most of the core stuff remains but seems to me most games can be easier than learning a new class or thing in D&D.

    Pharmacy not getting my meds right has left me feeling completely horrid--depressed, deflated, unattractive, old, and wanting to curl up and fade away. This is the hell I try and avoid, and why I stay on the meds. (Also not sleeping has added to this.)

    Searching for old fantasy in actual dead tree versions leads me to both cheap ancient paperbacks and (in some cases) glorious hardcover reprints that are clearly bait for buffs with a fair chunk of money.

    I rarely wish for vast sums of money, but gorgeous slip-case hardcovers do cause this.

    Silverlion,

    @LeviKornelsen They are amazing and imagine worthwhile to own in either form.
