Sun actually gets to experience something like that in his story.
He's stunned, impressed and shocked. Learning about the true history of his country is eye-opening. It takes him quite some time to come to terms with it.

Im Moment ist das Jeko, eine Nebenfigur in West Flows.
Ich mag ihn als guten Reiter, der seine Tiere liebt und sich gut um sie kümmert. Ich mag ihn, weil er ruhig und bedacht ist, einen kühlen Kopf bewahrt und irgendwie ganz er selbst ist.
Natürlich ist er für West wichtig, aber er nimmt sich selbst nicht so ernst. Und das mag ich auch.

Sun wouldn't really know. He has spent all his life in his House, everything he needs being provided by the Priests. Good quality, but nothing fancy.
Only when he finds out how "normal" people live, does he realize how little they had in the House. But he has no time to learn more, since he has to run for his life...

Laisal wants the best for everyone. She's a healer, someone who wants to alleviate pain.
When she discovers the truth about the Winds and Pillars, she's shocked to the core. Her world shifted completely when she rolled off the Pyramid with Sun.
Now, she craves justice. She wants to protect all Winds and Pillars, starting with Sun.

That's a neat one.
The Holy Empire is cranky. It thirsts for blood, for power, and it never gets enough. The times are changing, and it doesn't like it, at all.
Its servants, the Priests, are losing their focus, their purpose, and instead they care only about themselves. So the Empire clings to what it has, while power slips through its fingers.
#WordWeavers 24/9: Who’s feeling shame in your story? Is it justified?
Laisal feels a lot of shame for falling for the Priests' propaganda about the Winds and Pillars. She's horrified when she finds out the truth.
So she supports Sun and flees with him, feeling both betrayed and very guilty for falling for the deception. It's partially justified, but the Priests are very good at hiding the dire truth.
Still trying to find that elusive epic fantasy series that I completely vibe with. Tad Williams’s ‘The Dragonbone Chair’ surprised me with some great characters/worldbuilding and the high quality of the prose.
