StThicket,

The hottest spice I’ve ever tasted whenever I’ve been in Germany has been salt. Everything has been so mild, I’m pretty sure this will never be sold there.

StThicket,

I had the HTC Desire Z back in the day, with a full qwerty keyboard underneath the screen. It was awesome to write on, but it lacked performance.

StThicket,

Do you have border control between states? It’s basically the same thing with schengen. No control between countries on the “inside”, but rigorous control to get in.

StThicket,

You read the post, but did you process it? Read it again, and you might eventually get the joke.

StThicket,

Sweden is mostly cool, but the 3.5% grocery store beer is just sad.

StThicket,

Are you me? This album was, and still is, my favourite album of all time. It played non-stop on my discman for a year, and I felt like it was just as important to me as oxygen.

StThicket,

Android: “Check out all these options. You can customise it just as you’d like”

Apple: “Check it out! This is the best user interface ever. No need for customisation”

Difference Between Nerd and Geek

Has anyone written a scientific treatise on the differences between nerd and geek?

On the one hand, I could instigate endless debate about the finer points of nerds.

On the other hand I could construct nerds with a 3-D meat printer.

StThicket,

Gerd is a female name where I’m from. You should stick with neek.

StThicket,

Clean drinking water is not a scarcity everywhere. I’m pretty sure Rome would shut these down if that was the case.

StThicket,

Licensing: the same code i compiled yesterday doesn’t compile today.

StThicket,

As soon as I saw that weirdly proportioned wide eyed actress, I knew this was going to be a bad one. Charlize Theron did well as Furiosa, but I can’t picture Anya Taylor-Joy portraying Furiosa in a believable way.

StThicket,

This was amazingly insightful. Thanks for sharing.

StThicket,

My wife started a new job a few years ago, and during training she was shown how to create invoices.

  1. Open the excel template
  2. Fill inn the items, and the prices
  3. Sum all posts USING THE DESKTOP CALCULATOR …

She was completely dumbfounded.

StThicket,

As an engineer, I hate the way excel handle dates https://reddthat.com/pictrs/image/abda9e73-bb12-4be6-81bf-e22033dc621f.jpeg

StThicket,

Who would pick up mentos in the soap isle and think it would be candy?

StThicket,

The Hacked podcast actually talked about this on the last episode

StThicket,

Artificial Intelligence is a bad word for this technology. Why are we not using the proper name for it? Machine Learning. Its not intelligent, and it might not be for a long time. Feed it crap, and you’ll receive crap.

StThicket,

Also, low bugets makes the directors extra creative. They need to make the most of what they have. In my opinion, a well written plot trumps special effects every time.

What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

StThicket,

I bet the mentality is: “why would i want to have a bus stop when I always use my car”.

As opposed to “it would have beed nice to have a bus stop so that I don’t need to use my car”

StThicket,

My wife got the email anal@company.com. She was not happy.

StThicket,

I like my coffee so strong, it makes me want to shit just from smelling it.

StThicket,

As a Norwegian that deals with traditional seagulls that circle fishing vessels, i was completely shocked when i went to Brighton. I saw seagulls attacking family that were dumb enough to have a picnic on the beach. I was completely shocked. Your post surely cleared the mystery for me.

Stick shift drivers - would you get an electric vehicle?

I’m stuck on this personally. I love my manual, I have a tiny little Mazda 2 and I have driven that thing absolutely everywhere because I can control it better than any automatic I’ve ever driven. But I’ve been casually looking for a new car and I’d love to have an electric, but I don’t want to lose that level of...

StThicket,

My last car was a 2005 VW Golf 1.6 manual. It was a fun little car. It looked like trash, and i treated it like trash. We had many fun adventures together.

I went over to an EV after being tired of paying a fortune in petrol. My current car is a BMW i3, and i LOVE it. It’s rear wheel drive, cheap to run and cheap to service. I live close to the arctic circle, so it’s snowy about 5 months of the year, and this little thing with its skinny wheels is superb on winter roads.

Looking back, i don’t miss driving manual. Driving an EV is completely noiseless and calm. No fiddling with the stick, no clutching, just pure pleasure. The rear wheel drive makes it equally fun to drive, and skidding around in the winter is really fun.
