My experience in Canada with Ukranian migrants has been incredibly positive. I realize they’re probably flawed people like the rest of us, but I’ve never seen people work harder for a better life and job security than the Ukrainian refugees I’ve/we’ve employed this year. We’re working to get them whatever they need to secure their future here with their families, because they deserve it and they don’t have shit to go back to.

I woke up once with what felt like a large scab between my lips, stuck primarily to the bottom one. In my sleep and stupor, I thought it maybe dried blood, or food, or perhaps I ate a large booger in the night. The aroma was something else, though. As seconds passed and my brain began to make sense of what was actually happening, I realized that I had an entire stinkbug pressed flat between my lips.

A lot of division over the validity of this. A lot of strife over the "nothingeverhappens"ism of Lemmy. To weigh in on this as objectively as I possibly can, this reads like absolute bullshit, and it’s the first time I’ve seen something so absurdly dumb on Lemmy that I’ve witnessed mention of people clapping, Albert Einstein, and r/nothingeverhappens.

There are degrees of these things. r/nothingeverhappens exists for people who think a person’s story about their toddler saying something really clever is fake, or senselessly believe that some mundane or humorous encounter could not possibly be real.

r/thathappened is for people who claim their father went nearly twice the speed limit, got pulled over by police, told them he was on a race to reach Papa’s Pizza, and was promptly forgiven and escorted by them at a dangerous speed to overtake another vehicle and get him there first.

The waters on reddit were muddied a very long time ago.

It’s a slippery slope, folks.

Raw mushrooms dipped in Hidden Valley are pretty good… I love how they pop lightly when your teeth pass through them. You also can’t go wrong with a peanut butter and banana sandwich…

I have a copycat recipe for Taco Bells quesadilla sauce that is dirt cheap to make. I’ve probably made 30 liters of it in my lifetime. Smear that on a mini flour tortilla with some Great Value grilled chicken strips (no doubt made with tortured chickens to keep the price low) and a bit of shredded cheese (cheddar and monteray jack) and you’ve got one hell of a tasty quesadilla to fry up.

Here’s the recipe for the sauce. Let me know if you get around to making it. Would love to know what you think.

1 cup mayo (I use Helman’s 1/2 fat)

2 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp pickled jalapeno juice (from Old El Paso pickled jalapeños)

2 tsp cumin

2 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

A dash of salt

And how ever many diced pickled jalapeños you see fit

I’ve been trying to work on my internet ego. Leaving reddit a year ago did wonders for me. I still think every notification/reply I get on Lemmy is going to be a confrontation, and I can’t say that it ever is.

I hate to admit I still use Facebook, though. I live in a different country and it’s my lifeline back home to my friends and family, and it’s how I keep my daughter in their lives. But the algorithm knows how to bait me in. There’s so many obnoxious fucking douchebags on that platform. Somewhere out there in deep Facebook space is an Andrew Tate comment section where I dunked extremely hard on his fans. I no longer follow the replies on it, but I still get friend requests all the time from Tate bots, so I know it’s still active. One of these days, one of his followers will come to kill me.

Absolute piece of shit cameras with slow shutter speed for sure, even on the Ultra. I brought mine back for a cheap ass Pixel 4A and used that for two years instead. That has been outdone only by my Pixel 7.

I think the biggest disappointment I had after moving to Alberta was finding out the Aurora Chaser groups use high exposure for all of their images and the actual aurora just looks like white beams most of the time. I do see green from time to time, but you need to go to dark-sky preserves or the fuckin’ Yukon to see the good ones.

Aurora photos are a real circle-jerk of dishonesty.

Historical I have always had trouble getting to sleep, and since becoming a parent I experience waves of easy and difficult nights. This has been the case for four years now. For a while here I was falling asleep in minutes every night and things were pretty good. But the past few weeks have been awful. I’ll go to bed at 9:30 feeling ready to die, but most nights the last time I remember seeing on my clock was ~2am, and I’m getting up at either 4 or 6 for work.

I don’t know what to do, but I’m still ready to die.

I liked New Vegas quite a lot. I remember not liking it as much as 3 at the time, but looking back years later with a different perspective (and after playing Fallout 1), I appreciate and vibe with it a lot more and can’t wait to play it again… Heavily modded… With Survival Mode on.
