I get the joke, but it is kind of a phishing attempt.

Can you replicate it? If you can, you can create a bug report. If not, it’s probably a one-time thing where the stars alligned and the conditions where just right for it to happen.

A solution would be to place these movies in a seperate Library and only give your mother access to that library, so it does not show up for you other users.

Why are everyone suddenly aware that Neochat is unmaintained. I mean, the last commit was 3 years ago and the last release alsmost 4 years ago. Just because the git repository got archived on a date does not mean that it was maintained up to that point.

forum.syncthing.net/t/…/2

Syncthing is not a public sharing tool, it’s for your own devices. Perhaps you are trying to fit it to a scenario it’s not made for.

Quote from the maintainer/developer.

How would they determine what is AI generated and what is not?

Not sure what you mean. The protocol supports the bridge, not the client.

So it’s “just” the GTK gui that is iunmaintained. ClamAV and the other user interfaces for it will still be developed.

there are issues with the software we’re using that can only be remedied by massive changes or a complete rewrite.

I think this was the main reason for the Wayland project. So many issues with Xorg that it made more sense to start over, instead of trying to fix it in Xorg.

ElementaryOS is a great system, if you need something that behaves and looks a bit like MacOS. It’s based on Ubuntu LTS versions, so should be good for a few years at a time.

If a DE has a list of “must install” extensions/plugins for it to be usable, then that DE is not for me.

I don’t know most of these extensions, but from the names it very opinionated and depends on who you are if those extensions are a must have for you. I mean, Burn My Windows does not sound like a must have, while Caffeine does.

Title should have been: “15 Extensions I Have To Install On GNOME”.

I might be a bit paranoid here, but I would just re-install the system. Could be some malicious stuff at work here.

Update to QT6

This one is a big thing. Lots of stuff changed between qt5 and qt6, so it was a massive effort to get done. They also used this “rewrite” to clean up the code a lot.

KDE Plasma 6.0, and KDE Gear 24.02 released (kde.org)

Today the KDE Community is announcing a new najor release of Plasma 6.0, and Gear 24.02. KDE Plasma is a modern, feature-rich desktop environment for Linux-based operating systems. Known for its sleek design, customizable interface, and extensive set of applications, it is also open source, devoid of ads, and makes protecting...

Would be even better if colleges supported web standards in general, instead of just Chrome…

It’s a fancy number, but the release only fixes some wifi regressions. Nothing wild.

Spending a few days with Hyprland made me realize how awesome Gnome is

Don’t get me wrong. Hyprland is great. I like it a lot. It looks fresh, it’s easy to configure and the keybindings are super easy to implement, but it’s also very barebones. Most of the functionality expected from a DE come from external software. Be it a top bar, an app launcher, a notification daemon or anything else....

Strit,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

The difference, as I understand it, is that Hyprland is not a DE, it’s a Windows Manager. So it should be compared with the likes of Sway, i3 and Awesome.

I’ll show myself out.

What if your app actually needs access to the internet?

Another thing they have “slipped” in recently is Linux (only Ubuntu for now) support in Microsoft Intune.

This change will make it possible to run Linux in a Microsoft cloud/azure workplace.

If you have no local music and no physical music media, you are pretty much out of luck.

I mean, when you subscribe to services you understand there is the possibility that the service might go unavailable at some point. Some times it’s just temporary, but others are permanent (like Google Stadia).

I make a habit out of not relying on streaming services. If I really like something, music or video, I buy the physical disk.

Sorry, I don’t have an answer or solution for you.

I rip my physical media and put it on my Jellyfin server, so I can stream it where ever I am.
