UndercoverUlrikHD,

Alan Wake 2 is probably the best looking game running on any system, it works on Linux via Proton

UndercoverUlrikHD,

That’s because X means absolutely nothing. It’s a letter commonly used to fill in blanks. It’s an awful name for any company/brand.

Does a VPN used on a smartphone with Wi-Fi disabled (mobile data only enabled) provide any sort of protection?

I’ve never completely understood this, but I think the answer would probably be “no,” although I’m not sure. Usually when I leave the house I turn off wifi and just use mobile data (this is a habit from my pre-VPN days), although I guess I should probably just keep it on since using strange Wi-Fi with a VPN is ok (unless...

UndercoverUlrikHD,

What sort of protection are you after? Your VPN should encrypt your data to make it more difficult to snoop on your activity. I wouldn’t trust any random WiFi hot-spot just because you got a VPN encrypting your traffic though.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

It was originally something that seemed like a fact, but wasn’t, similar to you would describe something that looks like a human, but isn’t, as humanoid.

I guess people thought factoids they read were true, and assumed it just was a weird true fact.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

In a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, event-driven superiority trial, we enrolled patients 45 years of age or older who had preexisting cardiovascular disease and a body-mass index (the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters) of 27 or greater but no history of diabetes.

Results

A total of 17,604 patients were enrolled; 8803 were assigned to receive semaglutide and 8801 to receive placebo. The mean (±SD) duration of exposure to semaglutide or placebo was 34.2±13.7 months, and the mean duration of follow-up was 39.8±9.4 months. A primary cardiovascular end-point event occurred in 569 of the 8803 patients (6.5%) in the semaglutide group and in 701 of the 8801 patients (8.0%) in the placebo group (hazard ratio, 0.80; 95% confidence interval, 0.72 to 0.90; P<0.001). Adverse events leading to permanent discontinuation of the trial product occurred in 1461 patients (16.6%) in the semaglutide group and 718 patients (8.2%) in the placebo group (P<0.001).

Conclusions

In patients with preexisting cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity but without diabetes, weekly subcutaneous semaglutide at a dose of 2.4 mg was superior to placebo in reducing the incidence of death from cardiovascular causes, nonfatal myocardial infarction, or nonfatal stroke at a mean follow-up of 39.8 months.

The paper.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

Not sure how well meaning that guy’s comment was, but are you questioning if there were/are African slavers? You’ll find slavers across all major cultures. It is estimated to be more than 40 million slaves in world right now, mostly in Africa and Asia.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

Yeah, that’s why I wrote that I’m not sure how well meaning the guy was with his comment. He left it vague.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

Autopilot turns off because the car doesn’t know what to do and the driver is supposed to take control of the situation. The autopilot isn’t autopilot, it’s driving assistance and you want it to turn off if it doesn’t know what it’s should do.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

Sure, what meant though was that Tesla doesn’t have self driving cars the way they try to market it as. They are no different than what other car manufacturers got, they just use a more deceptive name.

What are the most private social media platforms?

I’ve been feeling uneasy about the privacy implications of using Lemmy and similar platforms. The ability for anyone to view your entire posting history feels to me like publicly sharing my browser history. In contrast, most other social media platforms allow you to limit your feed visibility to just friends or followers....

UndercoverUlrikHD,

What sort people are you trying throw off your trail? Genuine question as I’m not a frequenter of privacy communities.

Unless you’re a investigative journalist, what are the odds details such as weather, car, type of job would be compiled by someone to identify you?

UndercoverUlrikHD,

Further proof of Grizzly being the peak of human performance.

Better than Steam I’d argue. Unlike Steam, games you buy on GOG are yours to keep forever. No DRM like steam that forces you to log on after a few days offline. You also get better version control.

Edit: the offline limit was a bug. Offline restrictions would be dependent on the DRM solution for each individual game.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

After digging into it, it seems like the 2 week limit was a bug that has been fixed by steam. So there is no Steam enforced limit, it’s up to each game’s DRM to enforce restrictions. Steam can function as DRM with a simple command during upload, but it’s rather basic and Valve recommends publishers to use additional DRM for more serious protection.

GOG on the other hand is DRM free as a core policy so you’re guaranteed no restrictions.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

Gave Newell is 60+ years old and haven’t exactly taken the most care for his own health. We don’t know what will happen once he is gone.

With GOG there is nothing a change of leadership can do to your existing game library.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

I’m aware, however it’s not as transparent and Steam does not provide the same guarantees that GOG do.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

R and rust are two completely different languages…

UndercoverUlrikHD,

My apologies then, I thought you were shortening rust to R by mistake

UndercoverUlrikHD,

There are regulations in place, and nuclear power plants do not leave toxic waste around them? They aren’t like coal plants that simply dump the waste into the air.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

Got any sources for that happening in that domain? I doubt there are many politicians of the old guard that are comfortable relaxing nuclear power regulations.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

I appreciate the link, it’s hard to trust what people say nowadays as their hate for societal structures makes them all regurgitate the same sentences without regard for context or nuance.

Your source however didn’t touch on regulations being breached or removed by corrupt politicians. They only spoke about attempts of siphoning money from the public.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

I do believe nuclear power will always stay a unique exception to this, it’s extremely tightly regulated on an international level due to the fear of nuclear bombs. It’s far safer and better for the environment than coal plants or natural gas, which do poison the environment without much corruption needed to enable it.

The nuclear power industry is a whole different beast than what the California tech bros are used to.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

Just ignore the signatures, it’s harmless

UndercoverUlrikHD,

A War of Wrath trilogy could have been amazing, but with the current state of Hollywood, I can only assume it would be bland dialogue with a jacked, short haired Fëanor making snarky quips while slaying balrogs.

I really can’t imagine this turning out great when compared to the trilogy. Gollum of all characters is best left as a supporting character not the main focus.
