I've been playing a lot of 2D Sonic but I'm still not sure how I feel about it, specifically the Genesis era.

I know it also depends on what you grew up with.

Sonic has complex level design with a lot of different routes, tons of speed, multiple characters (eventually) and challenges.

But I can't help feel that Mario, especially Mario 3 and World have a degree of polish these games just can't touch, like everything is intricately crafted.

Sonic just feels like the kitchen sink sometimes.

Every visual novel needs to mention Schrödinger's cat somewhere, even if it's just one of the Tips. It's a rule I've discovered long ago.

Sonic won the battle but Eggman won the war. I’ll go back for those emeralds another time. Sonic CD will be next up, the one I know the least about. Sonic 2 was my favorite but maybe Sonic 3 will grow on me.

Also did some more NES Turtles II. This game has the most basic controls but it’s really tricky to take the hordes out without taking damage. Bosses are usually about jump kicking in just the right way. It’s charming though.

Populous is such a neat game. It’s not something I would probably ever try to learn today, but it was one of the few SNES games I had early on, and I eventually mastered it.

I’ve since tried the DOS version on GOG but it’s just not as good. Performance is faster but there’s no ambient sounds and getting the SFX and extra world themes to work is an ordeal.

The SNES controller works great for this with all kinds of shortcut button combos.

I finally started on Some folks I follow mentioned that this game can be pretty brutal compared to Steins;Gate... and going by the opening I agree.

Still it is very nice to revisit this world, with this gorgeous art style, great soundtrack and perfect voice acting.

If someone asked me if games are art and used Steins;Gate as part of the question I'd say "Yes, games are art. And they are beautiful."

@rakuno it’s always darkest before the dawn. The game is dark but that lets the hopeful moments hit that much harder

It's very subjective when a suddenly starts getting interesting and gripping. To me, it only happened in chapter 6 in . Chapter 5 was OK, but before, it was a real slog. I've been playing the game for months on-an-off like a boring relationship you can't end. It's nice that the story finally picked up for me, but why only after 10 hours? I recommend the game, but damn, it took me a minute.

@rakuno @helligbird Steins Gate and SG0 are so emotionally devastating and also joyous at times. But yeah like most Visual Novels, in order to see all the content, a guide is usually required. SG is especially tough becuase instead of dialogue options you have the sms replies which can change the route as well as get you little optional things.

I played an hour or so of Last Epoch and I'm not sure how I feel about it. It seems like a good time but somehow it's just not grabbing me.

It might be the setting. I feel like I've been dumped into an MMO that's been going on for a while and I'm out of the loop of who's who and what's going on, and the game doesn't seem to be in a hurry to explain much.

I got a little confused by the specialization menus but I think I have the jist of it now.

Now I have the hard decision of sticking with it or refunding and checking it out during a sale.

I picked up RPG Maker MV in the Steam sale. Looking forward to making nonsense with it. The character creator allows pink cats

@AterNox It runs until the 19th, the older ones are more heavily discounted but I think they’re all on sale

Anyone want to adopt me in FFXIV? I never made it through all of shadowbringers because I got bored playing solo. Probably didn't help that I played WHM the whole time either.

Anyway, someone need a pocket healer? I just need a little training and support :3

@aceattveg maybe? :3

aceattveg,
@aceattveg@gamepad.club avatar

@neatchee you can join the CWLS (Frendedex) we set up if you’d be interested. I’ve been a little more solo than usual recently but there’s a lot of people and it’s easy to find someone to hang out or practice with no pressure

aceattveg,
@aceattveg@gamepad.club avatar

@neatchee I can run something with you here and there but I usually just have barely enough time to get my daily stuff done before collapsing from exhaustion. Weekends are sometimes better on that front.

But yeah if you want to join that let me know, there’s a CWLS set up for each of the NA servers. I know some folks are always eager to do group content.

The problem with this block is that there is someone constantly doing home improvements and I wish I was exaggerating.

The people behind did a two-year long remodel to flip the house, person on one end works construction themselves and is constantly adding and removing stuff, minimum three houses got new bathrooms or kitchens in the last six months. And again, it's all DIY so they're weeks and months long. It's never a one and done affair.

Noise that’s out of your control is a massive trigger of anxiety and anger for me too, I’m sorry it’s been such a mess

@MsHearthWitch @elisse I’ve lost control before and started pounding on the shared wall and screaming. Probably didn’t even hear it over his music but I’m not proud of it

Warrior Level 65 done. Will Curious Gorge ever find love? Stay tuned for level 68.

Mario Wonder, finished up World 4. Some parts were a little reminiscent of Mario 2 with the locked door puzzles.

Bowser Jr has really grown on me over the years.

I’m back from the doctors office. Very sleepy. Been a bundle of nerves for days. Lots of stuff on the to do list but I met a very nice and thorough new nurse practitioner and she seems to really want to help.

Now I can calm down and try to enjoy Christmas 🎄

I think I have to switch to Yoshi (the easy mode) character soon otherwise these levels are quickly slipping out of my skill zone 😂

aceattveg,
@aceattveg@gamepad.club avatar

@elisse @mdrabbles I have a weird relationship with challenge. I grew up with the “NES hard” games and still enjoy some of them now.

But these days I have patience problems. I don’t want to be frustrated and have no problems playing on easy but I also don’t want a game to be too easy to where I get bored.

Being able to change on the fly is good.
