Since the third season of Sound! Euphonium dropped out of nowhere I decided to bing watch the first two seasons.

I still remember some of the characters and major plot points but there are a lot I don't remember anymore. Specially from anything after the first season!

Steins Gate 0 finished!

I was surprised by the way this game started dark but as others told me before, there is hope at the end!

And the journey was worth it just to see that hope, even with all the dark moments this game had.

One thing I liked is that it had some sections that showed the point of view/moments of other characters. This allowed us to see sides of them that were unexpected and pretty cool.

In short, I loved this game and it is now another one of my favorite VNs!

So this right here is what's got me scared of picking up Foundry VTT.

1.5h of basics??? A twelve part video series...of basics??? 😬

I assume it's not actually that bad. I'll spin it up first and click around a bit. Maybe video is also not the best format to learn about it. 😅

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@mforester As someone who uses FoundryVTT for GMing, it is not that bad.

In fact I'd say it is easier and more intuitive than Roll20. But I only used Roll20 for a one-shot once as a GM and a bit before as a player.

So depending on how experienced you are with Roll20 (or a different VTT) it might be harder to get used to FoundryVTT. (Just like switching from any other software you are used to).

I finally started on Some folks I follow mentioned that this game can be pretty brutal compared to Steins;Gate... and going by the opening I agree.

Still it is very nice to revisit this world, with this gorgeous art style, great soundtrack and perfect voice acting.

If someone asked me if games are art and used Steins;Gate as part of the question I'd say "Yes, games are art. And they are beautiful."

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@aceattveg I bet. Going by the true ending of Steins;Gate I am sure things will get better eventually or at least there will be a ray of hope.

But that introduction and seen Okabe so defeated is tough.

@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

I did every route in and saw the true ending. The other routes were easy, but I was lucky for getting Mayuri first try because of what they call "flags" for the true ending. So after Mayuri, I easily got the other character's routes except Kurisu. Then, with the help of a guide, I got Kurisu's ending and the true ending right after. I loved to see all story variations, to unlock everything and see that famous true ending! El Psy Kongroo!

@mforester @helligbird Perfection!

Maybe I should change my wallpaper to the Steins;Gate ones again and my home screen too while at it... :blobcatlaugh:

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@mforester @helligbird And wallpaper changed!

The home screen of my phone will have to wait until I have the patience to change it too. :blobcatlaugh:

P.S.: Yes, my desktop is really bare right now. I haven't really felt the need to put anything in there since I switched to Linux. Might change that in the future...

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@mforester @helligbird I think there are a lot that could work and avoid the issue you found. But perhaps it is just me.

Anyway, you probably saw these already but I think there are a few here that could work well for your needs.

It's very subjective when a suddenly starts getting interesting and gripping. To me, it only happened in chapter 6 in . Chapter 5 was OK, but before, it was a real slog. I've been playing the game for months on-an-off like a boring relationship you can't end. It's nice that the story finally picked up for me, but why only after 10 hours? I recommend the game, but damn, it took me a minute.

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@helligbird Yeah, I never expected that when I started to play Stein's Gate too but they really managed to do it well.

I was even more surprised that a lot of it was based on real world time travel theory.

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@helligbird The sms are my only nitpick about the game. To me they just sounded like gibberish but they influence the game's story some how.

The only way I was able to get through the game was playing it with a guide otherwise I would have abandoned it midway.

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@mforester @aceattveg @helligbird Yeah. Thank the gods for the skip option to be a normal (and expected!) feature of Visual Novels.

Still going through iterations blind would have driven me crazy.

@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

I just realized something.

Despite my love for I've been using Windows as my daily driver OS because of games.

But after testing some games on Linux I realized that doesn't really fly anymore. In fact, I should be doing the opposite: using Linux as my daily driver OS and only using Windows for the things I absolutely can't run on it.

So that is what I am going to do starting today.

Time to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@josey I've been saying I would make a bigger effort to use Linux as my daily driver and try playing games on it for years but never did it. Even with Proton and the Steam Deck I was still skeptical.

It was only this weekend that I realized how wrong I was and how far gaming on Linux had come.

Anyway, will do and thank you!

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@josey I used to play heavily modded Skyrim and Fallout 4. I will eventually test how doable it is nowadays. Even if it is not that is fine because I don't feel like playing those games anymore much thanks to Bethesda current business practices.

Other than that there is Daz Studio. Another one I will test later on and not much of a deal breaker either.

Honestly as things stand nowadays I don't think there is much of a deal breaker for me.

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@josey I actually did read that post because I found your blog thanks to a post @mforester wrote recently. 😆

But yeah, it is cool that someone made Lampray and is working hard to add features to it. It will certainly be better to have a native modding tool than having to use Wine/Proton to run it.

And yeah, that is what I heard about Daz Studio too while doing some googling. So it will be interesting to test and see what my results will be.

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@josey Ok! I will try to remember that. This weekend though I think I will play the No Man's Sky's latest expedition and some console games.

I will do more experimenting during the week and maybe the next weekend.

A few days ago, @josey sent me a link to a post of hers and asked me if I had a similar history of how I came to .

A good answer to that required a bit more than 500 characters. As it turns out, it also required more than one blog post. 😅

So here's the link to the first in a series of 3 posts I wrote yesterday and today, about how I learned to use a PC, came to love Linux and how determined I am to on Linux.

@mforester Pretty interesting read. I guess every Linux user of a certain age that started using computers with Windows (or even DOS) had a similar experience with Linux: first time shock and horror then run back to Windows.

Second and maybe third time trying to really get into it and finally falling in love with the OS and using it in a dual-boot environment. 😆

I am pondering switching to Linux exclusively again too. The way MS is shoving AI crap in the OS is really annoying me.

I love Lutris. 😍
I just installed it and it ran. No other steps necessary. 🙂
And hot damn, for the fact that you're an undercover cop, you do take out a hell of a lot of police cars in the opening mission. 😬
I haven't carjacked anything by jumping from car to car while driving -- yet -- but I've done some vehicular melee combat. This is however something that I have seen in other games, although I can't remember which one exactly.

A gameplay tip about "Vehicle Melee". You can use the right thumb stick to swipe your car left, right and quickly forwards to attack other cars.
A burnt out car with a ragdolled police officer lying on the street. Don't worry, they stood back up. No really, I'm not joking...
A still from an in-game cutscene. Vin Diesel is kinda idle-posed, while the femme fatale is staring at him. The subtitles say: "With me, you always know right where I am. Behind the wheel."

rakuno,
@rakuno@gamepad.club avatar

@mforester I need to give Lutris a try again too.

Right now I am experimenting with Heroic Game Launcher and it is pretty much a just install and run experience too.

As for this game I never heard of it but the way you describe it just sounds like a Fast and Furious game but with the serial numbers filled out. 😆

A kind friend gifted me Gal Guardians: Demon Purge. Playing it I realized two things:

  1. It is a very fun Metroidvania game with some very well thought out mechanics.

  2. I am terrible at this style of game nowadays! * Thankfully the casual mode of the game is pretty forgiving! :blobcatlaugh:

  • Not that I believe I was ever good but you know rosy-colored glasses and all that. :blobcatlaugh:

I didn't do the Utopia Expedition in when it was released so I wasn't sure what to expect of the Redux version.

Turns out it was stupidly easy. Possibly the easiest Expedition I've done so far. Not complaining though! After the disappointment that was Voyagers it was nice to do a expedition that was quick and easy.

This is the first time I've paired my to my and it works! My internet connection is not that good, but it seems to be enough. Now I can play more games in my bed, not only things I have for the Switch. I don't like to use the touch controls, so I'm using my normal controller. It's not optimal, but for this little experiment, it's fine. Much better would be if I could use the controller for better comfort, but I haven't tried it yet.

@helligbird I didn't know you could do that! That is interesting and does open a lot of possibilities!

I just discovered there is an event inspired by NaNoWriMo but for game design, be it digital or tabletop, big or small.

And it is called... NaGa DeMon!

I won't be participating but I just find that this event exists to be cool as heck!

For anyone interested, this is the official site: https://nagademon.org/
