What’s neat about is the polyglot nature of it. I'm writing a library that I later consume in a solution, all without switching context.

I can also run my .NET solution and run my tests. That's a nice workflow.

@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@khalidabuhakmeh How long have you been using ? About 1year ago, it was a nice editor, but missed tons of features that its elder @Jetbrains' brothers had for long. (Yes, I do know, Fleet is not the same as the rest)

After losing some edits of #orgmode files in between #Beorg and #Emacs, tonight I have added a save-on-focus-lost to Emacs:

(add-hook 'focus-out-hook ‘org-save-all-org-buffers)

The simplicity to accomplish this result is incredible. Similar things can be accomplished in #vim too.

Modern editors have to expose configuration flags for such features. Which are indeed easier to use if present, but less configurable and less composable.

The value of is not in the packages that are available (Gnus, org-mode, Magit, etc.). It is the fact that these packages live in the same application, manipulate text the same way, and can interact with each other to do exactly what you want them to do.

@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@galdor What is amazing to me is how extensible both and are while using completely differently approaches.

And how little modern editors have learned from them. I don't want to poopoo on modern editors as some are really good and cool. But very few have been build on this fundamental philosophy of extensibility.

Does anyone have any ideas or hypothesis why Shortcuts show up only sometimes in the iPhone searches?

There are times when Shortcuts show up. There are times when they do not. It is completely random. Not showing up is the more frequent result though.

(I'd appreciate any ideas or reposting to get answers. Thank you)

It’s been about 3 weeks since I’ve took my tasks from Workflowy to Org in .

It took me quite a bit of tweaking to get it as simple as I like it.
This is not my first experience with and the learning curve is pretty steep.

For my usage the results are pretty good so far. The iPhone app is a must have to make it work.

Still annoyed that the notch hides icons instead of move them over.

@siracusa sorry for bothering you with this question.

In SwitchGlass, “Show All Windows - Activate an app and bring all its window to the front.” Is this action supposed to also restore minimized or hidden windows? Or does it apply only to non-minimized, non-hidden? (The behavior I’m observing is the latter which is a bit confusing for me when thinking of “all”).

Thank you

al3x,
@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@siracusa Sorry for not understanding yet what’s the expected behavior (as I’m not familiar with these API references).

  1. If an app has only 1 window minimized will this window be brought to the front
  2. If an app has 1 window visible and 1 window minimized will both windows be brought to the front?
  3. If an app has only 1 hidden window will this window be brought to the front?
  4. If an app has 1 window visible and 1 hidden window will both windows be brought to the front?
al3x,
@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@siracusa Quick test:

  1. 1 window visible + 1 minimized => only the visible one is brought to front
  2. app windows hidden => all windows brought to front

@siracusa if you could share, where do you position SwitchGlass? I have it vertical on the top right side. It kind of overlaps a bit over the Dock. Thank you

@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@siracusa hi, do you know if it is possible, using the Dock, or SwitchGlass, to activate an app and switch to the Space on which the app has windows?

I haven’t been able to find a way to do this. Neither using the Dock, nor SwitchGlass. I am wondering if it would be possible?

I’ve started reading “Why we love baseball” by Joe Posnanski. I’ve already read about 20 pages… because I am laughing my ass off. I’m also watching on YouTube the moments. I haven’t laughed so hard in a good while.

Have you read it @gruber?

Isn’t this behavior in a bit strange: to use jump to matching parentheses, bracket, brace:

  1. cursor must be on the opening character
  2. cursor must be after the ending character

Why after and not on the last character?

layout pro tip: Having two hyper keys makes a ton of difference. And I can't remember the last time I needed an actual Caps Lock key or the actual right Alt/Option key.

  1. how do you use Right (Alt/Command) as Hyper key? Does that mean that you normally use only left-hand Command for macOS system shortcuts?

  2. isn't Hyper key defined as Ctrl-Alt-Cmd-Shift?

Is there any remedy for the Menu Bar icons lost behind the Notch?

al3x,
@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@cjk How does Bartender solve the behind the Nudge problem? If I’m not mistaken when expanding, some of the icons will still get lost behind the Nudge, aren’t they?

al3x,
@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@cjk I am not sure I see what the screenshot points to. On my machine, when expanding Bartender, if there’s enough icons in the bar they will get lost behind the notch. Bartender doesn’t re-arrange them beyond the Notch or present them in a different way.

Is there a specific configuration you are using? Thank you
