My first time camping in Japan and my wife’s first time camping ever. One night in Chikozan Park, about an hour away.

Went very well! After the forecast had been threatening rain, it ended up being sunny and pleasant. :blobsmilehappyeyes:

Wife wants to go again. Main comments β€œI didn’t expect to be so cold” in the evening, and β€œI didn’t expect everything to be so wet” in the morning. Condensation, enemy of all.

A few folks have asked me my opinion of the whole Unity debacle, especially in light of releasing a new game.

  1. It's terrible and no one deserves to deal with their nonsense, I feel for Unity devs πŸ˜”

  2. I have been and will continue using open source engines exclusively πŸ‘

All three engines I've used to make games thus far (GB Studio, Ren'py & Bitsy) are open-source, and if I ever need a more robust engine for a game, I'll use Godot.

I recommend trying out any of them, depending on your needs as a dev!

The communities surrounding these engines are really involved and supportive, and it's nice to know that they literally cannot pull a Unity, by design.

I've had some great DM convos with folks who have tossed me some invaluable tips and resources for building my game to be the best it can be, in a way that will be WAY easier than I was originally planning.

Posted a small but important update to Purls of Magic!

The player was able to collide multiple times with baddies, making the game super hard. That's been fixed!

Blown away by the response to Purls of Magic already, dang y'all πŸ₯Ί

Even though it was a long game jam (3 months!) I didn't think I'd make it in time. Between illness, a planned summer vacation and my basement flooding, all the odds were against it.

Really pleased with this demo, it's a fantastic start to what I think will be an awesome game. I had a great & supportive jam experience, and have connected with tons of fellow GB devs! ❀️

I'm excited to continue work on this over the winter, and release Purls of Magic the way I envisioned it!

Turns out level design is much more intuitive with pencil and paper. I can fix balancing issues later on the computer, but getting the structural ideas formed is so much easier here.
