Just entered that delightful time of the year of like 4 days where is not too cold and not too warm.

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@humanhorseshoes I normally take a few trips to Oslo, Zurich or California each year, and when I come back from there Stockholm feels rather affordable

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@scanton it definitely varies from summer to summer, but I’m gonna guess it’ll be like this for a week and then it’ll either get colder again or too hot. Yeah, Spain is way too warm for me in the summer!

It's too hot to work 🔥😩

How did I ever survive in Spain? 😂

@parcifal next stop, Stockholm 😊

@parcifal that’d be nice!

I know is pretty much everywhere these days, but seeing it in the cannabis industry was new to me, and admittedly quite amusing.

@ringods The guy doing the recording certainly was 😄 But honestly a pretty good session, and I particularly appreciated hearing his thoughts about our docs, where he felt he struggled, and so on. Helpful!

eek, I really do remember Abba winning 50 years ago ...

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@scruss Whoever wins tonight, I doubt anyone will remember it 50 years from now.

@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

While there's certainly a few good songs tonight... we're not exactly having an #ABBA moment tonight, are we?

#Eurovision

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@akosma I loved the costumes! And the song was alright... but no, not an ABBA moment ;)

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@akosma Lol, aaah gotcha! Yes, pretty much that.

One of the interesting things is that whoever wins Eurovision has to host it the following year, which is expensive. So there are a few places that send people who are good, but just a little too basic to win (Hi, Cyprus!)

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@designatednerd Yeah, on Swedish television earlier tonight they even said that many involved in organizing Eurovision here were relieved about us not having a winner song this year, because hosting it again would be too expensive 😅

I must say it’s weird to be in a European country that’s completely ignoring Eurovision

I just turned off the "minimap" feature of after realizing I've had it on for like a decade without ever looking at it. Is it useful somehow, or just a gimmick?

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@ohmrun Yeah, but even without the minimap, there'll be a red rectangle next to the scrollbar at the position of the error.. or at least as far as I can see?

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@jgillich Yeah, but apparently not neat enough for me to ever look at it 😄 OTOH I haven't been bothered by it either, until just today when I needed to split the editor across a couple of files and it suddenly was very much in the way.

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@scanton Yeah, all my recent work on building a language server has had me discover a ton of nice features, like searching for symbols with Cmd + T. We'll see about hiding the sidebar entirely... perhaps one day :)

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@ibboard @jgillich yeah, it feels like something that can easily be motivated as potentially helpful, because we really want it to be… not because we were ever helped by that.

When you talk to people about JIRA, many will say something like "it'd be an awesome tool if it just got rid of all the annoying features and focused on the most important ones". Which is probably true! The curse of JIRA is of course that no one seems to agree on which features are important vs. which ones are annoying. So you end up with all of them anyway.

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@bamboombibbitybop I don't love it either, but for my needs — which is basically a backlog and a Kanban board — it's not too annoying. I tried using a "GitHub Project" for the same purpose recently, but... it's just too basic. Perhaps they'll add the features I want in time, but then of course, people will complain that it would be better if it only had the important features and not all the annoying ones.

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@rgm Hah! That's funny, because besides "adding the words that I type to the document, and in the font/size I select", I can't even think of a feature that I care about, or most likely even know about. I'd love to learn which some of those features were.

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@rgm Yeah, customizable UIs may not be fashionable these days, but I do think it's a good way to deal with the "I'll never need these features and they're just in the way" issue. JIRA is actually pretty good with that, but while it's a great solution for single user software, it's not without problems when it comes to software that the whole org uses. As that takes us back to which features should be considered important, and which ones shouldn't.
