It's been a month since the last release, but v0.22.0 of everyone's favorite linter, , is now out!

@anderseknert In honor of this release, I'm reading some of your old posts. This really resonates with me: "Sometimes though, rather than having someone say 'here are all the ways you can do X', I just want someone more knowledgeable than me to tell me 'here’s the one way you should do X'. Having worked with OPA and Rego for years, I felt like perhaps I qualified as that knowledgeable person, and the Rego Style Guide came to be."

Thank you for the style guide & Regal! https://www.styra.com/blog/guarding-the-guardrails-introducing-regal-the-rego-linter/

Thinking about how Mozilla is "pivoting to AI" but DeepSpeech, one of the very few "AI" products you could possibly find a positive use for (pure-local speech recognition), is not only a Mozilla product but so abandoned that you actually have to downgrade to Python 3.9 to run it

dragonfrog,
@dragonfrog@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@mcc I think that's entirely right. If you have a positive use for a tool, you boast about the use. If not, you boast about the tool.

It's like "gun culture" folks who will say "a gun is just a tool". A shovel is a tool but there aren't "shovel culture" folks, there are a gardeners. A handsaw is a tool but there aren't "handsaw culture" folks, there are carpenters.

You can tell the folks for whom a gun really is just a tool, because they talk about hunting trips.

my big privacy related question is: why (seriously why) Apple keeps deleted photos on their servers indefinitely? for what really? and how that aligned with the privacy of the iPhone statements

bugs happens. that is not just a bug. that is a bug that surfaces the questionable design decisions.

Why share technical stuff online? You never know how they may become useful to others!

10 months ago I found a fix to an Eleventy issue I had. I documented it on my website in my /snacks section. https://hamatti.org/snacks/fix-templatecontent-too-early-in-eleventy/

Today, I noticed someone having the same issue on 11ty Discord and went to share it. And then I found out that Christopher had already shared my solution in the issue and it had helped them!

I do wish I could tell recruiters that I’ll never apply to a company that reports record profits and also lays people off.

Like why are we wasting each others time talking about corporate mottos and exciting projects? Your leadership treats people like disposable cups. That’s all I need to know.

Early (rough) version of how you can (soon!) show which policies your components consume/use!

Simply add the policy location url as an annotation on the entity to show which policy it uses!

I expect to release it next week! Of course, if you don't want everyone to see this information you can also restrict it with the OPA permissions module 😉

Keep an 👁️ on the progress here!

it's weird seeing cops talk about college-age kids knowing how to barricade doors. like, i'm 36 and i was taught how to do that in middle school. we did 'shooter preparedness drills' once a month.

This scandal in the UK. I'm a retired DBA, I had access to everything in every database under my control.

I'm puzzled that anyone in IT would believe that "there's no way Fujitsu staff can access the individual post office accounts; or change values".

This is complete garbage! Any DBA looking after the database can do what they like with the data, and if they wished, cover their tracks too!

It beggars belief that anyone would believe otherwise!

Open source contributors, what did you wish you knew when you started contributing? Or is there something that kept you from contributing for too long?

I am asking for a presentation, which I will give in two weeks.

We're heading to yet unprecedented ocean temperatures, which mean extreme weather events, storms and floods.

We cannot adapt to unabated climate change.

The only way: radically reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero
