While it was ridiculous at the time, I kinda miss the days when this is what people worried about.

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@cwayne even if that’s true (and I think it is), we can still long for the days when people obsessed about the genitals of a CGI frog over actual peoples genitals, can’t we?

It’s Friday, and spring is here. If that doesn’t call for a cold one outside, I’m not sure what does. Some “China chips” as Hanna calls them, to go with that. Life is good.

@cwayne this would be living the dream https://hachyderm.io/@anderseknert/112373321715957868

@brookie the prawn chips looks pancake sized too, but sadly neither do them were as big as they look here

So instead of an apology for not getting back to speakers about their submitted talks, try to use it as an opportunity to hustle conference tickets.

“but now we have to, unfortunately, regret.” LMAO

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@humanhorseshoes yes, EIC in Berlin. If you’re running a conference where €1000 per ticket is considered a PRIME price, perhaps you could afford hiring a translator, or I dunno, just ask a colleague to read the text before you send it out.

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@AlexB I’m afraid not. Isn’t KubeCon similarly priced? I’ve never paid for a conference myself, so I’m very much aware of my privilege around that.

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@AlexB ah, yes, I think the difference is that there is no “individual” option here. Anyone going to EIC is pretty much assumed to be there for their job. No, definitely not accessible.

"It’s also easy to download the attestation document itself for storage or offline verification (for example, in an air-gapped environment), quickly look at certificate details, or extract verified attestation contents in a JSON form so you can pipe it to a policy engine like OPA."

Anyone know the salary range for professional outside agitators? Because tbh that job sounds like a fucking blast. Instead of squashing bugs, you’re telling me I could be squashing cops all over the world and get paid for it?

Working on a few more language server features for , and it’s fun to compare my implementations with other language servers, like gopls. Sometimes they end up similarly, but most often other solutions are better and I rewrite parts of mine. I don’t want to check them out first though. Part of the fun is finding a solution on your own.

Open source contributors, what did you wish you knew when you started contributing? Or is there something that kept you from contributing for too long?

I am asking for a presentation, which I will give in two weeks.

anderseknert,

@lazyb0y @mahryekuh sounds like an absolutely toxic project. I hope your next one is a better one!

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@mahryekuh find a project you use and care about and join their community (whether it’s slack or whatever). See if there’s anything they could use some help with. At least to me the community experience felt so much more meaningful than just “contributing” without a plan. But I guess anything is good to get started :)

anderseknert,
@anderseknert@hachyderm.io avatar

@mahryekuh oh wow. Which one is it? Almost like we should maintain a list or something 😅

I gotta tell you folks. One thing we need to talk way more about is estimates. Engineers are getting way too comfortable with this notion that things are impossible to estimate. Good estimation is a skill. People do it all the time. Yes it can be tough. Yes you can still fail at it. But pretending it's not a reasonable expectation to ask of people making huge amounts of money makes us sound ridiculous.
