Every time I apply to speak at a conference, I know the odds aren’t in my favour. There are always so many good proposals, vastly more than the available slots, most applicants are going to miss out. And yet, I get my hopes up anyway. Every time.

For me as a social scientist, being in tech is a constant experience of being really surprised at what so many people seem wildly certain about (organizing teams, contextless conversations about productivity that treat all individuals as interchangeable) and what people seem so wildly uncertain about (the possibility that there are often systematic patterns in human behavior we can learn from, the effect size of culture)
@greg@grimalkina It feels like an indictment of leadership in tech. The people are the important part and the processes and everything else should be helping people be their best selves.
Maybe this is why I find myself giving talks to technical leaders about how people work…
Installed macOS Sonoma beta this weekend to try out the changes to #MusicKit. Can confirm that this lets me add #AppleMusic support to @longplay for the Mac. The previous way only worked through Catalyst and caused the Music app to spawn as soon as you start playing, which was hideous, but this now works independently and support AppKit. Woot woot.
@nighthawk Hmmm yeah – comparing wallclock time to playback time might be helpful. Otherwise a temporary “ITS HAPPENING!" button which triggers sampling of some description (even if it's load average, memory pressure, active process, UI visibility whatever)
That might help narrow things down, either for you or to add to the FB.
@nighthawk Light glitches after 2 tracks. I'm multitasking with Slack, Safari and VS Code sitting on top of Longplay. Playback through a Topping D10B at 44.1kHz (though honestly I thought I had it higher)
When I give Longplay focus, the glitches abate for a bit. As you said, there are console logs for coreaudiod and RemotePlayerService.
@nighthawk Can I just say, being able to properly queue albums is something I've been longing for for a long time.
I miss Rdio's queuing mechanic. It worked so well, and Apple music's is a tyre fire.

I’ve been really bad at social media the last few months for lots of reasons, most mental health related, but is Mastodon stuck in the same idiotic debate about how the shot on iPhone aspect of Monday’s event is problematic and misleading b/c they used said iPhone alongside pro gear? B/c this is truly the dumbest outrage tech thing I’ve seen in months and months. Like it is genuinely insipid and we’re all dumber for even entertaining it.
