My kids' basketball coach periodically reminds parents that they (the parents) are in the stands to cheer on the whole team, not to shout unqualified and confusing instructions to individual players. And also that the players are under 10, so spectators are advised to chill.

She's brilliant.

Wieder ein der die Treppe und die Rampe durch Parken verstellt.

Linkerhand sind genügend Parkplätze vorhanden, aber man muss genau vor der Rampe halten auf der Leute ihre Wagen, Körbe, Rollatoren oder Fahrräder hoch und runter schieben können.

Toll gemacht. Nicht.

Zwei - oder Autobesitzer - gesehen die ihr Auto auf der Straße in gewaschen haben.

Der ganze Dreck und die Reinigungsmittel gehen ins Grundwasser und ins Abwasser. Ganz toll.

Leider keinen bei Rot gesehen - bin heute an keiner Ampel vorbei gelaufen.

@rachel Adding protocol extras without broad consent in the community leads to the situation which basically rendered XMPP a widespread mess of implementations, including some big companies doing their own thing with the protocol. We've been there before.

I’m writing a “database” lib where each entry is a file, to avoid having to load the entire DB for most operations.

I think it might be a good fit for the rewrite of my time tracking app. 🤔

Writing this DB feels illegal. Please let me know why this won’t work. 😆

@orsvarn This leaves more questions open than it answers:

  • How do you place records (files) in "tables"?
  • How do you know which files to read for a record?
  • How do you handle thousands of records or files? This is a lot of syscalls.
  • Did you measure performance, compared with something like SQLite?

I somehow doubt that opening 20 files one by one is faster than opening one file and reading the content.

@orsvarn As to why JSON is slow, that's a whole different story. If you need to parse the entire JSON every single time, I can see that this doesn't perform well.

@orsvarn Re "handle syscalls": if you have on file per record, reading the file involves open(), followed by read(). Or mmap() the file.

Since your records are small, you are sending many syscalls for small files to the kernel, which is slow.

@TheRiver2010 @qbi "Möchte Verantwortung übernehmen" - aber was plant er alles zu machen?

Speziell die CDU hängt hier einen Haufen Plakate auf bei denen nur Gesicht und Name drauf ist, sonst nichts. Als ob ich mir als Wähler davon was kaufen kann.
