The U.S. called its generation born just before World War II its "Greatest Generation". A large portion of that generation served in junior ranks during the war. That generation then went on to put a premium on education, autonomy, mastery of one's craft, and contributions to a greater undertaking. And it went to the Moon.

Hot take: maybe that's at least in part because they served with officers in the war who emphasised those same qualities. Because the ones that didn't, got their men killed.

Mal in die -Runde gefragt: was verwendet ihr denn so für Bratpfannen? Ich bin in den letzten Jahren von Teflon abgekommen und bevorzuge eher Keramik-Antihaft (meist von WMF). Ich hab auch gusseiserne Pfannen, die ich regelmäßig mit Leinöl einbrenne, aber für den tagtäglichen Gebrauch ist eine mit Antihaftbeschichtung einfach bequemer.

Aber ich lass mich gern auch von anderen Standpunkten überzeugen. Retröts und Kommentare gerne erbeten.

If an absolute maximum of 18k fedi servers (probably way less than 10k) making requests 2 requests to your server (so they can download the OG image you decided to make) can bring it down for hours, maybe your server configuration is the problem.

One of the flaws of democracy is that there is no way to exclude people from decisions whose consequences won't affect them, if they lack the decency to act on the behalf of those whom those decisions will affect.

No person over 70 has any business acting against the interest of a 20-year-old, when it comes to mitigating climate disaster.

@pludikovsky No, that doesn't work. You can't exclude those people from, say, decisions about healthcare or pensions or public transport which absolutely do affect them.

It's a flaw. It's not fixable by a tweak to the system. Any such fix is a net loss, on balance.

There is no substitute for decency.

Wenn ihr wissen wollt, welchen Stellenwert in der hat, geht in eine beliebige Schulturnhalle. Wenn das ⁠feld mit einer trapezförmigen Zone markiert ist, denkt daran, dass die FIBA vor 14 Jahren (!) zu einer rechteckigen übergegangen ist.

Die zweite Runde 28 Minuten diese Woche war mit deutlich weniger deutlich leichter! Jetzt sind es nur noch zweimal 30 Minuten nächste Woche und dann bin ich durch mit meinem Laufeinstiegsplan. Was mache ich dann? Ohne Plan laufen oder einen neuen starten? Ich weiß es nicht.

Weil heute Feiertag ist, bin ich ein bisschen später los als sonst, Krähen habe ich aber leider trotzdem nicht getroffen. Aber die Gänseküken sind noch da. 🥰

I know this might suck to hear, but buying something reusable and then never reusing it is usually a worse deal for the planet than buying a disposable thing.

Particularly if the reusable thing that you're not reusing is also not biodegradable.

Die gebräuchliche Abkürzung dafür lautet AHS.

Ratet mal, was "AHS" in diesem Land von 1938–1945 bedeutete.
