Hollywood did its part, too, as it so often does. I grew up watching movies where Asian (usually Vietnamese) people were the bad guys, and then when that no longer mattered to the empire it became about Arabs. Arabs were almost always portrayed as stupid, greedy, untrustworthy, inhuman, and evil. And even as a kid I understood, on some level, that this was about Israel.
