Found a scammy website impersonating a friends' store, and it is trying to harvest credit card numbers and of course it is hosted on Cloudflare, where reporting such things does nothing. The state of things.

bert_hubert,
@bert_hubert@fosstodon.org avatar

In case anyone cares. "3dsecur.stripesusas.com" will happily ingest your credit card number & do evil stuff with it. Site is of course not related to Stripe, it only fakes it. Proudly hosted by cloudflare, who do not even have a category for reporting fraud.

Preparing another presentation on the EU Cyber Resilience Act, and this part remains WILD. If you embed an open source component in your product, and you find a vulnerability in there you SHALL report it to the open source upstream. And if you have a fix, you should send that too: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=CONSIL:ST_17000_2023_INIT

its always a let down discovering a vendor is an antivaxer.

went to a farmers market this morning and while buying nice mushrooms from the good mushroom stand the guy launches into this kaleidoscopic nutbag rant about how 'they're injecting the vaccine into cows and chickens!' and how he had to go to arizona to get hydroxychloroqine when he had covid

sloooowly baaaack awaaaay...

bert_hubert,
@bert_hubert@fosstodon.org avatar

@Viss the variant where your very important customer has a rabid antivaxer you have to work with is also.. special..

So I have this super fancy 192kHz setup to sample mishaps in my mains power. And two times already the lights dimmed when I wasn't recording. Starting to feel that simply looking at my power is protective somehow!

@luis_in_brief so there is this concept of the De minimis edit, which I often struggle to explain to the kind volunteers that help me improve my blog posts. "it might make things 1% better or perhaps not but it takes 20 seconds to find that out" so please give it a rest.

So I used to worry about leap seconds causing problems. But with declining programming standards & increasing code brittleness, I wonder what will break this February 29th...

bert_hubert,
@bert_hubert@fosstodon.org avatar

@mwfc well in GNSS (except GLONASS) you can usually ignore leap seconds, except at the very end. I'm so sad we might never again see GLONASS mess up the leap second.

Ho ho ho https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/software/citrix-sophos-software-impacted-by-2024-leap-year-bugs/ "Some users have suggested changing the system date back to February 28th, 2024, and quickly restarting the Citrix service without rebooting, which reportedly worked."

My measurements of the frequency of Europe's continental grid line up very well with those of Swissgrid. Mine show a little more high resolution detail.

The '50Hz' frequency of Europe's continental electricity grid, shown hovering around 50Hz, as measured by my hobby setup

Big Data -> Edge Compute -> Artificial Intelligence

I've realised you can currently gauge what investors are throwing infinity money at by simply looking at what the GitLab home page currently is trying to sell you.

I can't remember what it was before Big Data, maybe the Enterprise Service Bus?

Or “where Docker”. I do get it but it is literally a more isolated style of computing. Both in technical as well as social senses.

So a few days ago I asked for help how to record my mains signal with high resolution, because something in my house is eating LED lights. Together with @alzimon & friends we built a setup. Today I got it working here, and lo and behold, there appears to be crap on the wire. 196kHz samples (!). Still need to double check this is not caused by my setup, but it looks reasonably solid:

    Is anyone aware of a streaming data format where you can embed timestamps periodically? And perhaps open it up with a descriptor of what the data is? Sounds a lot like "streaming WAV" in a way. This for efficiently transporting 48kHz samples of voltages.
