People are reading far too much in the today's verdict from the European Court of Human Rights. Despite what you may see claimed, it mostly restates existing practice. Like that governments can only do (bulk) interception if this is necessary & there is a law with proper procedures that authorizes it. https://hudoc.echr.coe.int/eng/?i=001-230854

In so far as this legislation permits the public authorities to have access, on a generalised basis and without sufficient safeguards, to the content of electronic communications, it impairs the very essence of the right to respect for private life under Article 8 of the Convention. The respondent State has therefore overstepped any acceptable margin of appreciation in this regard. 81. There has accordingly been a violation of Article 8 of the Convention.

    Too funny.. the “Top Read” articles on English yesterday **are all about the ** ! You have to go all the way down to # 16 to find a non-Super Bowl article (the Kenyan runner who died)… and then Super Bowl articles continue after that.

    Predictably the top page is Usher, which you can see as “so who is this guy doing the halftime show?” 🤣

    And then people wanting to learn more about the celebrities hanging out with Taylor Swift 😃

    @C__CS and I wrote some words on Dutch .NL registry @SIDN's plan to move its platform to a Canadian venture running on an American cloud. They say this is necessary because no one in Europe can provide the technology that can run a domain registry.     Dutch intelligence & security agencies MIVD and @aivd have just published details of a Fortigate/Fortinet Remote Access Trojan that they found on an unclassified network. They attribute it to Chinese actors.     But I think it's more than just a disdain for history. Many of my peers have lived thru all these cycles. Why aren't they all speaking up each time? I believe there's a massive failing in education because there's zero continuity, not enough people are passing on their gained experience to the cohorts just a few years behind them. So every generation builds the world again from scratch, instead of enhancing what's already been built.

    On the ongoing mystery where everyone sees 1-2% Firefox use, and I measure >35%. Hypothesis is that my content is so geeky it attracts technical people only. Here is % of Firefox split out over various articles. Lowest % is on a Dutch post on debating techniques. Highest on a very specific open source page.
