I see that Landscape (the guy behind the Stereo Field and Noon) has a new product that's a handheld string resonator similar to an Ebow. On top of looking very sci-fi, you can vary the vibration via CV. Pretty compelling.

@stevenray That price is dangerously low enough to tempt me.

@stevenray The varispeed option is really interesting to me. Especially with pianos.

@stevenray I did. I’m really digging those (and the guitar as well), but also wondering what it would do on my electric mandolin.

I mentioned yesterday that I let my recording students put me in the hot seat every year. Here's the result - the on solo . Not my best playing, but they did a great job for only having two hours to do everything!

Hey nerds, over the years, I've had more than 10 Lamy Safari/Al-star pens. Exactly one of them is working consistently well, all others have had some sort of problem and I've tried thoroughly cleaning them, changing nibs using with cartridges and converters etc.

I've come to the conclusion that maybe Lamy is shit, or at the very least, hit or miss, leaning heavily towards miss.

I'm looking to purchase a new fountain pen but I have no idea what to get. I mainly just want it to work well over time, not look too lawyer fancy and more sleek and minimalist, equivalent of Lamy EF nib. I'm not sure about price range, but I'm very willing to pay more to get something that really fucking just works. Any suggestions?

@symmetrizer I’ve been really happy with the TWSBI 530 (EF nib), which has been my daily driver for years now, and out performs more expensive pens from Parker and Waterman.

Ironically, my favorite pencil is the Lamy 2000, which seems to be utterly indestructible and writes great.

Republicans love gerrymandering. They keep getting slapped down for it, but coming back for more, which tells you how desperate they are to keep doing it.

Michigan now requires maps to be drawn by an independent commission (per a ballot initiative in 2018). Now things even out more and represent the voters better. I think many red states would have the same experience if the maps were fairly drawn.

A federal court throws out Alabama's congressional map again:

@TonyStark It did take multiple court dates, but yeah. We got it through.
