exactly! whenever anyone says imperial units are “more intuitive” and better reflect “how it feels to humans”, i can only think: obviously, you grew up with it. that’s what you know.

no matter what measurement system you were raised on, it will feel intuitive to you and reflect how you as a human experience the world because you are used to measuring things in those units. having said that, i’d much rather we used metric if for nothing else than the ease of unit conversion.

always happy to read about someone who wants to try vegan food :)

vegan butter is great - it tastes a little off from dairy butter if you’re eating it on its own (also depends on brand, some are way better than others) but it is indistinguishable (to me) in a complete dish or baked good.

all the vegan mayo i’ve had is a great substitute for cheap storebought mayo, but maybe i’ve just been getting shitty mayo lol. if you’re someone who is into the fancier mayos and/or have made your own at home and know how good that can be, i haven’t had any vegan stuff that measures up without additional flavorings. but like another commenter said, you can just mix and match flavors until you get something delicious.

this is the correct response.

get it in writing that they accept the risk that comes with not upgrading so it can’t come back on you. all you can do is CYA and make recommendations - if management does not agree with your recommendations make sure you have it documented that you informed whoever is making the decision of the risk.

if you think your employer will somehow still try to hold you accountable for this, save the aforementioned correspondence using something your employer does not manage i.e. a personal device. you could also let other people than this specific individual know about this so it isn’t just your word vs his.

i am curious: since those topics make up such a large portion of the content i see on lemmy, do you find that you get a good number of posts to look through without them? i mostly browse all and find i can get through just about everything i’m interested in clicking on in like 30 minutes per day.

maybe it is just a symptom of how i browse the internet and my semi-niche interests, but i find the non-linux hobby communities here to be rather lacking. i know the solution is to post to them myself and i try to, but frankly i don’t have that much to post about. it also takes some willpower to keep posting to a 10 person community and get maybe a couple comments every few posts if i’m lucky, but that also could be that my posts aren’t very interesting lol

it really is crazy how different it feels to use a linux pc after being conditioned to think that windows is just how using a computer is. the way i relate it to my friends is that using windows feels like i’m constantly compromising with the computer, but using linux i own my computer and it works for me - not the other way around.

i understand the sentiment but the “cats are bad for the environment” thing is mostly about how the human practice of keeping and breeding cats has made more cats than are good for the environment and placed them basically everywhere.

like yeah there are native cats but also we have a shit ton of cats brought and/or bred by humans that nature is not equipped to handle

ah yes non vegan cooking is famous for being completely free of food colorings and any other ingredients or techniques used for purely visual flair. notorious for being illegal to look like another food item.

nobody is tricking themselves into thinking it’s eggs, it just looks better and people are familiar with a yellow pile of mashed breakfast food instead of a white one. it would look gross with no colorings added, maybe something red like paprika would work just as well.

i find your aversion to making tofu scramble yellow strange, and i assure you when the turmeric hits the pan my mind does not go “ooh now it’s eggs”

idk man i didn’t invent tofu scramble i just like the way it tastes and find tofu with no dressing/coating/browning/whatever to look relatively unappealing - especially tofu scramble because you aren’t browning the tofu at all (at least i don’t)

also i wrote and deleted like 7 different reasons why i thought people do this with tofu scramble specifically but i think i just agree with you lol. i guess its mostly to give people who are transitioning to or trying out veganism a direct analog to a food they already are familiar with and feel like they are giving up? i’m more partial to food that is unabashedly plants over of the faux meats/etc, so i hadn’t considered that angle so much.

mixed - lots of stuff up in the air at work that could affect my employment status so that’s just in my brain all the time, everything else has been pretty sweet though.

also, has anyone here ever had a nightmare that affected them so much that it carried into the day? just general lingering feelings, ideas etc. i had one of those last night and i am not a fan.
