I’m a writer, but don’t expect deep, personal shit. I’m a sysadmin who doesn’t like nerds, they’re every bit as willing to be the most vicious and petty of bullies as the people they claim they’re so very different from.

But as individuals, they’re all right.

A lefty who hunts, so not an NRA fan. Done martial arts for years, not one of the MMA clowns.

If I say “free software” I ONLY am speaking of the price.

JFC someone seriously tried to argue that you could have photoshop-level image algorithm coders and workflow people work for 300-1500 a month and I guess they never have to add a new feature or update for OS issues and no one ever needs to interact with a different app…fuck, I get beef with Adobe, I have DECADES and RECEIPTS, but y’all FOSSStans are some of the most deeply unserious pinheads I have ever seen.

What about open source inherently prevents enshittification? Nothing. And don’t give me that “well with the source code” bullshit.

Source is the start. You got a team of people who can write fast, tight, stable image algorithms in the reg, improving and updating? You got people who can build in workflow automation tools that integrate with other apps?

This seems cool, but based on what an admittedly fast search found, is there really no way to automate Affinity Publisher beyond basically mail merge?

Someone please tell me this app has a proper automation implementation. https://mastodon.social/@JasonAnthonyGuy/112576510741333419

Really considering just blocking infosec.exchange. Like the level of reply guy fuckery from that server is off the charts.

I don’t get why they bother, they seem to know everything about everything according to them so why interrupt their omniscient circle jerk to interact with ignoramuses.

What copilot recall will do is force companies to disallow any remote access with a personal Windows computer unless NAC detection can include recall.

I do not care about new APIs at WWDC.

I want to see:

  1. documentation that isn’t header regurgitation written by people who think only incompetents need documentation.

  2. Apple actually dogfooding beyond their own convenience.

  3. full-throated support for automation, both Shortcuts and AppleScript/JXA (or even a more swift-based language)

And in the realm of things that are possible:

I want them to give me a pony.

There’s the Idaho option: OB-GYNs leave the state for places where they can safely practice medicine.

This won’t actually hurt the only people Paxton cares about, rich honkies, but if enough middle-class white women are hurt by this, maybe they’ll vote for their own interests for a change.

Basically, unless the honkies that created the current Texas state gov. choose to vote differently, nothing will change & I don’t see why any doc should operate in that legal climate.

This is the inconvenient part of business resilience and continuity planning.

If people have to build up a cushion to take a vacation or have to work when taking a sick day just for the business to keep up, that is a poorly planned business.

“Lean and mean” is bullshitese for “cheap”, and it always bites the business in the ass.

When people start writing paens to the “good old days of the pre-Google, pre-Facebook internet”, take that shit with a grain of salt.

A few things were better a lot of things were worse and most nostalgia leaves out a lot. If they make it sound like everyone was more welcoming and kind back then, at best they’re full of shit, at worst they’re straight-up lying.

This is a fucking trip because there’s so many examples showing this to be nonsense.

Kansas, a red AF state literally voted to preserve the right to abortion that the state Supreme Court said was in the Kansas constitution.

Missouri pro-choice supporters were able to get a vote on an amendment to the state constitution that if it passes, will preserve the right to choose. Missouri is so red that the NAACP said Black people should consider it a sundown state.

Swap “AIDS” with “COVID”, it’s a remarkably similar path.

Before anyone gets too weepy, allow me to remind you, or inform you, that the “mom & pop/independent” vet clinics have paid vet techs utterly shit wages for the work they do for decades.

Anyone trying to act like the techs are treated well now and will be hurt so badly by this is at best ignorant and at worst the vet who runs their own clinic and pays their techs shit.
