Yes, the woman who shot and killed her dog should be shamed for such a horrible act, and everyone with an ounce of compassion should feel something. And even though it was "legal" in the state, legality does not equal morality.
Moreover, there is no justification for the unnecessary killing, torture, or exploitation of another living being, be they a dog, cat, bird, cow, pig, fish, duck, deer, human, etc.... But, that too is legal and most people actively support it everyday.
So far this year, over 18 billion animals have been killed in the US alone for human consumption. Countless more culled, tortured, and exploited.
So if you're upset about a single dog being killed "legally", you should also be outraged at the mass slaughter taking place all around you right now. The next step is to stop supporting it and go vegan.
"Veganism is something that each of us can do now. No campaign, legislation, litigation, is required. You can just do it. It is completely within your control.
And it is easy. It’s just a matter of really taking nonhuman animals seriously and not just saying that you take them seriously. It’s just a matter of recognizing that whatever pleasure you get from a steak or ice cream cone, or wearing a leather coat, it cannot possibly justify inflicting pain, suffering, and death on an animal." - Gary L. Francione
When it comes to whether or not one should harm another, we must only look at "necessity". Is it necessary to physically abuse another living being? Is it necessary to shoot them with a gun or an arrow for fun? Is it necessary to exploit them for their labor, flesh, or skin? Is it necessary to force them to reproduce? Is it necessary to kill and consume them?
And for the vast majority of us, the answer is always no. If we can agree that causing unnecessary harm to another is immoral, then we can agree that #veganism is the only path forward.
The killing never stops. All around the world, tens of thousands are being slaughtered every second just to satisfy the hunger for animal flesh. Throats are slit, lungs are gassed, and babies are tossed into macerators. Those who are not killed in this moment are waiting in line for their turn, stored in filthy conditions, and abused regularly. They do not deserve this. No one does.
We don't need to harm others to survive. We are beyond that point in our evolution, both biologically and societally. It's time to put an end to animal agriculture and create a more peaceful future.
Alone, we can't solve the world's problems. But, we can take individual action to make it a better place, and the more of us that take action, the bigger the impact.
@mvtracing As someone who was bullied in school and could have easily suffered a similar fate as Nex, this truly breaks my heart. They didn't deserve to be harassed. They didn't deserve to be ridiculed. They didn't deserve to have their life taken from them.
Bullying has been an accepted commonplace in schools and society for far too long. As we've become increasingly more connected online, this has only become worse. This must end.
Veganism.Social has implemented a block on the newly created "#BlueSkyBridge" which aims to link public BlueSky posts with the Fediverse, and allows BlueSky to access and scrape our data. This bridge is being "forced" upon the Fediverse with a bizarre opt-out approach, which in itself goes against the nature of the Fediverse.
We urge other instances to impose the same block, especially those that are already blocking Threads.
Regardless of what others do, I'm making it my personal mission in 2024 to be a force for good. From what I see, there's not enough in the world right now, so even the smallest acts can make a huge difference.
Donate what you can.
Help those in need.
Listen to those who have things to say.
Be there for each other.
We have to stop this cycle of exploitation, killing, and hate. For the sake of everything we cherish, we must.
Hi again. It's me. Reminding you that #veganism is not a diet. It's a commitment to nonviolence and the abolition of animal exploitation.
One cannot be "mostly vegan", "partly vegan", or "vegan except for the holidays". You're either intentionally participating in the exploitation of animals, or rejecting it. You're either #vegan or you're not.
All animals are equal and deserving of our respect. They are here with us, not for us. They are not ours to abuse, exploit, and murder. Unlearn speciesism. Be fair, be #vegan.
#Speciesism is not about loving nonhumans of certain species and violently exploiting others. Speciesism is the refusal to see individuals of other species as persons with intrinsic value, reducing them instead to their value as instruments of human use.
Some dogs are indeed seen as beloved members of their human families, but a vastly larger number of dogs are dismissed as "pets", merchandise, breeding machines, "service" animals, test subjects, bait... Beloved or not, dogs, just like cows, chickens, fishes, pigs, and all other nonhuman animals, are still considered the property of humans, and their value is still measured solely by the value that their "owners" place on them.
Unlearn speciesism and be respectful of all living beings. Be #vegan.
@strypey Regardless, do we need honey? No. Do we need to exploit the bees? No. Did the bees consent to have their honey taken and used for human gain? No. Animal exploitation is animal exploitation. Period.
@strypey Please do not come to me and start trying to justify animal exploitation. No matter how you spin it, it's not vegan.
We have no right to take anything from another animal when it's completely unnecessary. I'm all for providing bees and other animals with ways to keep safe and comfortable, but at no point is it acceptable to steal what they produce, be it "surplus" or not.
It's annoying when people stop talking to me after a conversation starts drifting towards veganism. They know I'm vegan, so what do they expect from me when animal products are mentioned? I make a comment, then they go silent.
Time to try and push the insanity of the world out of my mind for a bit. Big race tonight with a lot on the line. Need a strong run (and most likely a win) to keep the championship within reach.
November 1st is #WorldVeganDay, and November is #WorldVeganMonth. If you want to prevent animal abuse, help mitigate climate change, limit your environmental impact, and benefit your overall health, try @veganeasy's free 30-day challenge.
The horrors of the #dairy industry are infused into every milk chocolate candy bar being handed out for #Halloween. The cows on dairy farms live lives of misery, pain, and suffering all to satisfy the bizarre human additiction to milk.
Be #vegan. #DairyIsScary
