Yes, the woman who shot and killed her dog should be shamed for such a horrible act, and everyone with an ounce of compassion should feel something. And even though it was "legal" in the state, legality does not equal morality.
Moreover, there is no justification for the unnecessary killing, torture, or exploitation of another living being, be they a dog, cat, bird, cow, pig, fish, duck, deer, human, etc.... But, that too is legal and most people actively support it everyday.
So far this year, over 18 billion animals have been killed in the US alone for human consumption. Countless more culled, tortured, and exploited.
So if you're upset about a single dog being killed "legally", you should also be outraged at the mass slaughter taking place all around you right now. The next step is to stop supporting it and go vegan.
#Speciesism is not about loving nonhumans of certain species and violently exploiting others. Speciesism is the refusal to see individuals of other species as persons with intrinsic value, reducing them instead to their value as instruments of human use.
Some dogs are indeed seen as beloved members of their human families, but a vastly larger number of dogs are dismissed as "pets", merchandise, breeding machines, "service" animals, test subjects, bait... Beloved or not, dogs, just like cows, chickens, fishes, pigs, and all other nonhuman animals, are still considered the property of humans, and their value is still measured solely by the value that their "owners" place on them.
Unlearn speciesism and be respectful of all living beings. Be #vegan.
Ich dachte mir, dass ich hier mal wieder aktiver werde. Und möchte an dieser Stelle einfach nur betonen, dass Freund*innen kein Essen sind. Und Schweine nette Leute :)
Habt noch ein schönes Wochenende 🐖
