This makes me so fucking mad because my local small grocery store, the only place nearby to get fruit and vegetables, closed in December over a liquor license dispute - their square footage wasn't large enough to be considered a grocery store!!!! - and now the government is rolling out liquor sales to corner stores. Come the fuck on. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/alcohol-sales-convenience-stores-ontario-1.7213546

And the additional irony to this is that now we almost certainly also won't have anywhere nearby to buy beer, wine, and ready to drink cocktails because there are no real stores.

One of my neighbours is practicing their trumpet at 10:30pm. We get it, you’re quirky and interesting, now go the fuck to bed. (At least they’re talented at it but come the fuck on)

So we have via rail tickets booked for August and naturally I loaded the tickets in Apple Wallet… then a few days later I got an email saying the schedule was going to change and now I’ve gotten 2 new sets of tickets and I’m sick of adding and deleting tickets 🥸 I should be able to just use the same set of tickets regardless of what schedule changes but I’m annoyed at this process. If the time changes by 5 minutes and I need a whole new set of tickets? Gesus…

casseagull,
@casseagull@mstdn.social avatar

@grivettcarnac Yeah they did this to my schedules for later this month and just sent me a vague email saying my times had changed and here's a link to all the new times for all of our routes, which I could only figure out the relation to my own trains by knowing the train numbers. It was really weird and not helpful.

@WTL @grivettcarnac That is smart as hell. I am stealing that.

I was really looking forward to having a nice patio, so I'm glad it's finally done!! (It was supposed to be finished last week, but a longer project before us, rain and a blown tire on the highway delayed them.)

But after going to bed at 5 am because of work, I didn't appreciate the machinery at 8:30 am, and the stone cutting at 4 pm when I was finally napping 😅

casseagull,

@stephanie ohhhhh nooooo. That’s so terrible! Hope you’re able to get a good night’s sleep tonight.

Israel is working on starving to death the Gazans they haven't bombed to death. This is genocide. Israel is committing genocide.

Meanwhile, the US has not delivered a single bit of aid to Gazans, claiming that there is danger of "looting", again telling racist stories about Gazans instead of the truth that they are being starved to death and are understandably extremely desperate. https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/may/22/humanitarian-operations-near-collapse-in-gaza-says-wfp

For my veg meal seekers out there, these portobello smash burgers are SO good. Even my partner who thinks he hates mushrooms said that they tasted really good and gave you the satisfaction of a beef smash burger. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1025333-mushroom-smash-burgers?unlocked_article_code=1.t00.kFVL.2dOPELj4twV5&smid=share-url

I can’t believe how pervasive Ring doorbells have become. (Never mind all the other brands out there.)

They’re everywhere.

I don’t like it.

Tulip Fest traffic on our street is extra fun this year because the construction project has been working on landscaping and has a ton of gravel and dirt that are all over the street so every time someone drives by and has to turn around at the dead end they cast even more dust onto our house.

Absolutely incredible coffee on the deck this morning under a cloudless sky and a pleasant breeze. All good things must come to an end, though. I left last night's dishes to this morning, and need to scoot to the Market for a paper, shoot a video for work. I've let Natalie know I'm available from 11:00 on for our first bike->ice cream of the season.

We went to the plant nursery last night and I went a bit ham on choosing shade-loving perennials for the section of our backyard that doesn't get much light.

Happily, they (Ritchies Windmill Lane) had Hellebores, which I was really really wanting, so I got a few of those that should look SUPER cool once they bloom (next year, bah).

I'm generally quite excited in general about the PWHL but today I saw a headline about how Boston is the first team to qualify for the Walter Cup and I wondered what that was named for...

... only to found out that it's named for Mark Walter, the male founder of the league and owner of all the teams. Gross, man.

They don't even have names for the teams yet, but the cup? Yup, named after some fucking billionaire.

Which reminds me, another initiative that is going on over on The Bad Site but also TikTok is the Block List where people are blocking celebrities who haven't spoken out against genocide in Gaza. It's not so much of a thing over here on Mastodon, which is pretty much a group blocking of celebrities by design, but it's an interesting way to apply pressure.

I do wonder about what kind of ass kissing shitbirds the requirement that federal executives having to work four days a week in the office is going to attract.

For one, the most snivelling asskisser, old schoolers imagineable, only interested in furthering their careers (honestly not a huge change from many executives in some departments now)

It's also wildly white man favouring, since who else has the flexibility to be able to be in the office that often.

I bought a few grow lights and set one up over this little ikea greenhouse think and put my lemon plant in there. The frigging thing has cranked out two leaves in the last few weeks at a ridiculously fast rate compared to usual.

A small lemon plant in a tabletop greenhouse. Two new leaves are sprouted from its top.

My lemon tree grew so much over the winter and spring! It's getting a bit lopsided for some reason, but look how huge it is!

casseagull,
@casseagull@mstdn.social avatar

The photo on the left with the sprouted seeds is from when I first started trying to grow a lemon tree in November 2022 (I really wanted a lime tree but none of my limes have seeds!) and the second is in August 2023. You can tell it has grown so so much in less than a year.

A small lemon tree in a pot on a windowsill. It is about half a foot tall, including the pot.
